Posted by: Trevor on 30 August 2014

Whilst I can rip CDs and play them back the Desktop Client black Artist, Album, Track bar do not show anything and the Progress and Play / Stop / FF buttons do not work. Presume this should all showand do the relevent things?.

Anyone got any ideas please.

Well the first question is, is it connected to the US?

Hi garyi thank you for reply

Yes they are connected I can watch the ripping process and the green dot with Unitiserve id is in the bottom right of screen.

If i double click on a track it plays but no controls on the icons on top right or album info.

The info is in the properties of the tracks though?

Hi,

Does the UnitiServe runs the latest software? Please be aware that while upgrading the UnitiServe to newer software also a new version of the DTC needs to be installed...

Michel

http://www.naimaudio.com/hifi-.../pdt-type/unitiserve

Scroll down to reveal tabs of which manuals and downloads is one

Are you connecting to the Uniti with Ethernet? If so, the buttons in the desktop client (DTC) will not work. You need an apple device with the nStream app, which will control everything.

Make sure your .net software is up to date. If yes perhaps try reinstalling it.

Sorry Michel it dawned on me just after posting the reply.

It is the current version on Naim site 4.0.14.1175

Have tried 2 different laptops and both are the same. Nothing in the Desktop Client Black Bar works

Trevor, again, how is your uServe connected to the rest of the system?  What are you using to play the files??

Bart. I have a Uniti 2 with Ethernet connection for I Radio. The Unitiserve has another Ethernet connection for CD Ripping info. This is connected to the Uniti 2 via the Digital 2 input. With the Desktop Client on a Wi-Fi connected laptop I can view the ripping process see all the albums and play them by clicking on the track in the listing but no control via icons in top right or any album info although it is all there in the individual track properties.

Well, it's most confusing. I've just looked in the DTC on my Windows PC and the buttons you describe all work as they should. I'm using the same version of the DTC as you.

The only thing I can suggest is that you email support at naimaudio dot com and ask them to advise. If necessary, Phil Harris can dial into your system and sort it out.

I'd ask one thing though - do you have an Apple i device? You'll get better sound connecting via Ethernet, and then you can use nStream to play and nServe to manage the ripping process. Fiddling around with the DTC on a laptop is very clonky and the apps are so much easier. You then only need to use the DTC to set the backup schedule and overall settings, such as the ripping mode and conversion on playback. I suggest you get hold of an iPad asap.

Oh dear more technology I have to come to terms with. Have managed to keep away from those I things up until now???

I think you have to switch over to "play" mode from "rip" mode in order to play.

I am sure I have tried that but it made no difference. Will try again when home this evening. Thank you

Mine's in rip mode, and all the functions that don't work for Trevor work for me. Play mode is for playing physical CDs, using the US as a CD transport.

I realise that getting the functionality working is the issue, but it really do recommend using an iPad to drive the system; it's just so much better, despite the alleged dubious practices of Apple.

Once you get yourself an iPad, you'll never want to get rid of it!

If you know how to use the keyboard in Windows, most users have no clue of how to do this, nothing ´comes close to the desktop client, forget an Ipad so much slower in all operations.
