New U2 Album

Posted by: rodwsmith on 10 September 2014

I haven't heard it. But isn't it awful?

Or

"Tedious f*cking sh*te from a tax-dodging w*nker called Bongo and a bunch of sanctimonious t*ssers who wouldn't know what real life was if it sh*t on them from a great height.

They haven't been good since 19xx (insert preferred date here) if indeed they ever were, which they weren't anywhere near as much as xxxx (insert name of band no-one else has ever heard of). I remember xxxxx concert (insert made-up un-checkable pre-recording deal boast here), through a haze of 'proper' Guinness made from Liffey water and proper Irishman's piss, That was when U2 were last good, that was. And still the support act was six million percent f*cking better.

Every time I click my f*cking fingers a new iphone scalds the tiny hand of the Chinese child that just made it.

Edge! F*cking "Edge", I mean what the f*ck is that about, then eh? Can you imagine: "Dinner's ready Edge". What a c*nt. One name. One chord, more like.

Still, at least you can't moan about the price, eh?"

Yeah, great post fella,

Or

Am I being sarcastic?

I enjoy rodwssmith post. Very funny and perceptive.U2 were once my favourite band but are now disappearing up their own fundament.

Someone told me in 1981 about this brilliant new band called U2 - they had a singer called Bono. They came from Ireland other than the Edge who was from Barking. I thought someone was making it all up - sadly they weren't.

Is that you Rod, or my old mucker Mr Agreeable (he of the recent and scabrous Coldplay review)?

Posted on: 10 September 2014 by rodwsmith

Rumbled.

Do you know what? I've listened to it twice. And I think it's quite good so far.

<<ducks>>

Although it looks like they got the bloke who did the last Bowie cover to do the artwork, I must admit.

I remember having to see them play at Wembley Arena, I was working there, and they only had enough material for a 50 minute set. I wish they'd left it at that. I wouldn't give them space on my hard drive even if they paid me.

Sure about what Char?

Posted on: 10 September 2014 by Steve J

They didn't have elf and safety in the '80s Char.

Uh, since I already have this on my hard-drive, could someone explain the compensation packages available and how one would apply ? I am retired now, so every little bit helps.

The Albums FREE Chill out

Posted on: 11 September 2014 by Bruce Woodhouse

So apparently it will be free to all iTunes users?

One part of me feels it is very nice of a band to give away their album free.

Another part thinks it is quite mind blowingly arrogant to believe that so many people would be grateful for it.

Some sound advice from the BBC

Well ever since the Beatles copied their rooftop concert idea I have been upset.

(Oh, maybe I got that backward?)

They have had some good stuff, but in my opinion, even at their height, suffer from being highly overrated, and excruciatingly self-important and pretentious.  And their time has passed as far as I am concerned...quite a while ago I might add.

All my "infected" devices have been wiped clean. The dirty evil barSteawrds!

They still haven't found what they were looking for - which presumably is a 3rd chord?

Remember bono is a third person character,   Like ziggy stardust or even elton john.and  U2  was only a reflection of us.  so in reality they don't even exist - right!  The virtual has become virtual

After some listen rounds: for me this record belongs to the top ten maybe even top three rock pop albums in the last decade. The songs have a very good to outstanding quality (exception is the mediocre first song which is the first single).

If you search the internet a bit I have the impression due to it's unusual release practise and free availability this albums helps to reignite the interest in rock and album listening in general. For many teens and twens it's there first complete album experience.

This is a very strange thread.  Its a decent album but that's about it

I've not listened to it enough to comment, but that's unexpected praise. I'll give it some of my time, although I'm no longer much of a fan. War, LUABRS, Achtung Baby, Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree were very important to me at the time. Listen to Wide Awake in America if you don't think these guys were, at one time, a very very good (if not great) band. Hell, even watch Rattle and Hum. It wasn't bad stuff at all.

On the subject of free releases, "In Rainbows" (which was also a free, or at least pay-what-you-like, release), is definitely one of the finest albums of the past 50 years.

+1

Double +1 arrogant as it can't be removed

However the people at Apple have heard the news that we are not all fans ...........  what a surprize ..........  & have announced a remove button

........... press quote    "It's embarrassing for Apple that it's had a bit of a backlash, it was giving something away to its customers - so that part was really good - but what it should have probably done was make it optional. Not everybody's a U2 fan as it's just discovered"

Just checked my iPadMini and ... yeeeeeeeeesssssssss! 1st bit of music to find it's way on, I feel like a new dad. Now all I have to do is tear myself away from listening to the band U2 always wanted to be (The Alarm) and find out if it's a 'dathuil' one...

They were a great band with War and Boy and a very good band with Joshua Tree and Achtung baby but I've found there more recent stuff hard work. To be fair I think this is a good album and I will listen to it again which is surprising
