Can't connect to my Unitiserve

Posted by: Tommis on 10 September 2014

Hi - I am unable to connect to my Unitiserve with either the iPad / nServe or the windows application - the Unitiserve keeps blinking at twice the rate as when in shutdown mode. I have hardwired the Unitiserve. Any ideas? Tom

If it's blinking it's not happy. The power supply may have gone wrong. Have you tried holding the logo to try and force it to shut down?

Was there a power outage while the unit was on?

Follow HH's advice and if that doesn't work, turn the unit off using the switch on the back. Let the unit cool down a bit and try restarting.

If it doesn't start up normally, it has either lost the boot sector, or the PS is faulty. Either way, call your dealer.

Yes ---- I sort of turned the unit off without doing the shutdown procedure with the front button first (must be the only product in the world which has such a regime?) --- is that why its "unhappy"? What's the cure?

All HDD have a managed off cycle,  PC's, Laptops, iPads, NAS etc

Do you force your PC off or hit the official off button,,  then how long does it take to actually go completely off ???  Thats a managed off cycle

You will be lucky to not damage something if you keep forcing it off.

So what's the fix then?

Press and hold the logo and see if you can get it to shut down properly.

I have already done the full and proper shutdown and restart process with no positive results .....

Sounds broken to me.  I think dealer time.

As HH alluded to, could be the power supply has gone faulty.my US exhibited the same behaviour when my original power supply developed a fault.
Hopefully it is that as it is fixed by them sending a replacement power supply.
Speak to your dealer and get them to speak to Naim support.

Exactly same thing happened to me and a replacement power supply did not fix the problem. Had to then send it to the dealer and they said the hdd had to be replaced. Hope you backed it up... I didn't so it was another month of inserting cds!! Painful!!

To the Op: Do you remember what the last operations were that you tried performing with the Unitiserv before it died on you?

Something very similar happened to me over the weekend too (green blinking light of death)- I was able to resurrect the machine by playing with boot orders (it and the NAS) and replacing the network cable.
