Streaming from iMac to Unitiqute

Posted by: Ashley on 13 September 2014

I've been using the Unitiqute, NAP 100 with PMC 20 21s for 9 months and love it.  My cd collection is all ripped to a NAS drive, but I also play audio from my iMac, using a cable from the 3.5 jack on the iMac, knowing that this is not ideal but have not been able to find a way to stream from the mac using my domestic network.  A previous thread recommended Yazsoft Playback software but this is unfortunately no longer available.  Does anyone know any other available software that will work?

Ashley,

There are many long threads on UPnP software.

I have Yazsoft's Playback; not sure if it could be found somewhere, but I like it best of the few I've tried. Asset UPnP software is widely used by members here, and has a trial version. PS Audio also makes a free UPnP application, which is what you need.

I stream all my music from an iMac to at UQ, and it works very well (most of the time).

Thanks very much for the suggestion.

Hi Damon

I downloaded the Asset UPnP software but it doesn't seem to do what I want, which is to stream audio from Internet TV/videos etc to the UQ.  The website suggests that the full version, which you have to pay for, will do this but only from PCs.  The PS Asset Audio site had a load of downloads but they seemed to be for their products, do you know what the UPnP app is called?

You will likely find that there is a significant delay (5-10 seconds) between playback on your computer and the Qute, so if you're hoping to have sound in sync with video you're out of luck with UPnP. I would suggest trying to get a digital output (Optical or SPDIF if your Mac supports these) to the Qute.

Ashley,

Hmm, audio from internet TV is something I did not think of, as I just watch regular tv. Apple TV to an airport express into the UQ? Or it could just go from the iMac to an airport express then into the UQ.

Asset, to me, does seem PC-oriented, but my experience was limited.

The point about a delay is a good one, but I couldn't offer any opinion on that thought.

Can you get a cable from your iMac to the UQ? Would ethernet work?
