Favourite internet radio stations - part two

Posted by: osprey on 14 September 2014

Since the original favourite internet radio stations thread is not available for posting anymore I thought I’ll start part two.

I have recently found a new jazz station which I like a lot i.e. Audiophile Jazz. I came across to this accidentally when I tried to connect Atlanta Blue Sky Jazz Colours (but unfortunately without any success) which is the next one in the list in n-Stream. (Later I found out that Audiophile Jazz was already mentioned also in the forums in this thread.)

The recent playlist includes e.g.

I have been a bit lost during the summer (as for internet radio) since my earlier top station East Village Radio stopped broadcasting in last May (more about that can be read here). So if anyone has found a new favourite please share your experience – I, for one, am interested in your findings.

A bit of Elvis is always in order - particularly on this fine Saturday morning I thought so I tuned in but all I got was silence. N-Stream connects to the station and the time is running in the screen but no sound. Has anyone tried to listen to this station recently (and what has been the outcome)?

I do from time to time have a trawl through some Internet radio stations, and Audiophile Jazz is a great tip, which I've enjoyed listening to since you mentioned it.

But I just can't stop going back to the old favourite Radio Paradise.......

Firstly,   apologies for my spelling  This happened to me about a week ago when I was setting up a friends Unitilite. I returned home and tried again on the ND5 but the same result. It was showing on the screen but no audio. I tried again a day or so later and it was working fine as it is right now , perfect for a sunny London morning

It's Saturday again so I thought I'll try again and this time it worked. This really seems to be a station for all Elvis fans (except those who prefer the other Elvis ).

I'm fairly new to streaming and found the Internet Radio choices utterly bewildering at first.

However, after a fair bit of stumbling around and a dash of dark mutterings I landed up with some Soma FM stations that fitted the bill.

Top hit was Drone Zone: ambient, droney (no way!) and perfect for whiling away an afternoon of reading, surfing the net or just going "gloop" out the window at the clouds.

Deep Space One: a more lively version of Drone Zone

Space Station Soma: another step up the lively ladder

Earwaves: good if you like experimental electronics, bad if you like a bit of tune or rhythm with your tea

Suburbs Of Goa: Asian Underground. Excellent selection with the likes of Bombay Dub Orchestra, Karsh Kale, Natacha Atlas et al.

What I couldn't find: a station that majors in Berlin School electronica. Any pointers welcome.

The internet offers The Triumph of Content over (Absolute) Quality.

For this - we should be happy (enough).

Ain't the internet brilliant?

You are indeed prescient Adam. And right, that the choice is vast and the quality often questinable. Fortunately, for me, The Drone Zone's quality impediment i(128k) is not shown up too much the content.

For the others, the lessons learned are worth it, just about. FM still rules.

Just listened to Suburbs of Goa for a bit

My only thought was ...why would a human do this to themselves?
