Finally - Streaming Music From Mac Mini

Posted by: Iain M on 15 September 2014

I'm happy to say that after two days and 4 different UPnP servers I've finally gotten a system that seems to work reliably.

I'm using a new Mac mini as a media server for iTunes to an Apple TV amnd two other macs in the house and to stream my iTunes library to my Naim UnitiLite. Allegro Media Server kept disconnecting every 30 seconds sending my uniti on a long cycle of "input initializing" which was too bad as it suppors iTunes playlists. kazoo from Linn worked the second best but was limited on sorting features and occasionally dropped out. I have settled on Asset UPnP for Mac as my stable server of choice.

has anyone else had trouble with the UnitiLite and Allegro out of curiosity?

i seriously recommend plex media server. You should try it. Your scenario is best it will happily scan your itunes library (and any other music you have including flac etc) and then it goes on line and finds beautiful artist artwork which is presented on nstream in the artist section.

it will also stream that music to your phone/ipad/computer anywhere in the world,

its free, its flawless with nstream (dont even need compatibility mode) and by far and a way presents your music in the best way and on the most devices.

When I first had a streaming setup about 2.5 years ago I tried Allegro and eyeconnect on an iMac.  Neither worked reliably.  This was in the days before Asset was available for Mac.  I solved the problem with £2k and a UnitiServe.

Good you have found something that works for you without too much effort - and expense!
