Did I miss why this was closed?
They seem to self destruct after a period of inactivity.
Another Hopeless star "feature" no doubt.
Not sure if there is an archive area, seems very stupid just to lose a store of information if not.
If you want to comment on an old thread [that has been closed by locking], all you have to do is email Richard Dane, and he will unlock the thread in question.
Not a problem.

The cut off date seems to be June 8th, 2014 i.e. if the last post of the thread is older than that the thread has been locked. However, I'd recall this to have been a decision of the administrator and not an automatic feature of Hoop.la (the fine platform provider)
Let's get this thread going again people!
Love this 1934 portrait of Coco Chanel by the great Horst P Horst:
And this 1954 fashion shot by the same photographer:
Another amazing Horst, this time from the 1940s:
Not especially old...But of its moment
In the latest issue of LFI (the Leica journal) there are some extraordinary shots taken during and after the 1944 Warsaw uprising. Such as this from Stanislaw Bala (1924-2013)
I love this shot (taken by the great South African photographer Jurgen Shadeberg) of a pub in the Gorbals, Glasgow, back in 1968:
Rare color photos of Paris ca. 1900:
Et plus:
Not especially old...But of its moment
What a great pic
The difference a century makes:

Yeah, we liked the twins one too!
I normally do much care fore artificially colourised photos but some of the works here are interesting.

Yes, some of them are done really well Kuma.
British soldiers fighting in the First World War were forbidden to take cameras to the front. However, thanks to the innovation of tiny "vest cameras", many Tommies were able to flout the rules, and the fascinating results of this disobedience can be seen here.
This is a haunting imagery reminding me of the ending of Remarque's 'All Quiet on the Western Front'.

Who needs an excuse to show off a pic of the magnificent Sophia?
Love this mirror shot which is from the late 1950s I think:
Again, not that 'old' but, well...Blimey!
Rosetta mission: Philae comet lander pictures its target
Stunning picture.
