Just a thought.

might be nice if Naim installed a user guide, showing all the features of the new software and how to best use it's functions, rather than letting everyone find different little bits of its offering, and creating a raised dissatisfaction

Keith

...because if a UPnP server returns a graphic to associate with an item in a UPnP list then it can be displayed. If it doesn't then we cannot ... It is the UPnP server that provides the browsing functionality not the UPnP client ... this is why it's not possible to do direct alphabetic access through an Artists/Albums list because it is an unsorted list and there is no context to each individual entry as far as the UPnP client device is concerned.

Best Regards

So PlugPlayer isn't using UPNP to do it?

By the way, i love that it doesn't switch input to UPNP until I play something. I can select UPNP to browse while the 252 is set to AV Pre and it doesn't switch until I play music.

Nice.

However, I have lost the alphabet down the side. i'm back to dots.

Phil is correct and god knows I have beaten on about this enough.

Here is how plex media server, displays in nStream for artist view.

Looks great from here and all working well. The reality is a lot of you guys are using 200 quid, chip as chips Nases and you expect the earth, this is your server, your primary access to music, get the right one!

My server is made by Naim, and it still doesn't answer how PlugPlayer does it?

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by Jlaz

I finally got the app to work!  i want to give a shoutout to Phil at Naim and others on this forum who helped me figure out how to update my ndx.  To be fair I had to really take apart my set up to plug in the serial adapter-- which I left in place in hopes that we get a new update with streaming options :-)

Updating the software made all the difference in the world.  The new Naim app works fine. I am sure I sill have more feedback as I use it.  I do agree with some that it would be nice at set up in if it would scan for available naim devices.

now that it is working i do like the new app!  Thanks to all who

helped.

That's what I want to see in the Artists view, exactly.  I wonder where Plex pulls the images from; any ideas?

Keith

The cover art provided by eLyric is not part of the media library, i.e., is fetched from an external resource. This behavior can be disabled if desired (in my case, if the cover art isn't present, I prefer to know about it).

This gets especially dicey if there are embedded cover art images that the server cannot extract or supply to the control point at the correct size / format, even though they are inside the actual file.

I would be happy with scrobbled artist folder art, as long as it didn't override album cover art in the levels below (which is typically the case).

Sorry to repeat myself but can others see the 'volume limit' and 'balance' functions on the 'Audio Settings' page on the app?

It was there on initial installation but has vanished. Some people seem to be able to access it but I can no longer do so.

Phil - this isn't a major problem so I'm not inclined to submit a service request. Just curious as to whether it should be normally available. Thanks.

Glyn

Both 'volume limit' and 'balance' functions exist in mine, and work fine. Mind you, I have had to reboot my streamer and re-install the app tonight to get everything working OK.

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by Damon

Sigh. Now all I get is 'streamer not responding' messages. This after trying to reset or reenter the 'room' and manually enter the IP address.

I can't get the settings menu to stay alive long enough to try and reach the settings in it. Reset iPhone (4S, IOS8) restarted Asset and Playback, unplugged UQ. UQ is on firmware 3.2.2 or whatever the latest version is.

How is it that Naim's app can't poke some life into Naim's own equipment? I accept that there are many ways for streaming and controls to go wrong, but so far, it seems that the changes are cosmetic rather than substantive. I'm glad that the 75% group has had good luck with the update, but so far I'm getting the same mediocre level of connection and control reliability I had with N-Stream.

So PlugPlayer pulls images off the internet for Artists and gets exactly the same image of Gerry Mulligan as I picked When I couldn't find the right one?

It's a small world.

Has anyone else lost the alphabet down the side?

Thanks to Harry for alphabet thing

Plex pulls its meta data from a range of online services including lastFM.

It then presents that information (beautifully) and also via UPNP. As Phil has mentioned if the information is there it will be presented in nStream, I have demonstrated that this is so.

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by KRM

So the Unitiserve is able to present images to PlugPlayer, but not to the NDS? Really?

All we want is for it to show the first album cover it finds. If a free app does it, why not Naim?

Looks like I will wait with the update for a bit, so see that it get's through the next iteration.

With regards to appearance, I’m quite happy although I’d like the chosen style to be more prominent in the “playing” screen rather than the black background. That’s a minor niggle and not exactly a big problem

The changes I’d like to see in the next update :

1)      Improved editing in playlists and play queue e.g. the facility to delete more than one track at a time, touch and drag to change the order.

2)      Play menu to appear when a track is touched rather than the three dots. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve added an entire album to the play queue by touching the track name. I’m not sure why this was changed as touching the individual track is far more intuitive.

3)      Lyrics available to be displayed although I realise there may be copyright/cost issues involved here.

4)      Reinstatement of the format and sampling frequency information, the sort letters on the side and just one track and album artwork showing in the now playing screen.

Nothing major but all would make the overall UI more satisfying

Just a thought. I will try it out when I'm back home on Friday. Anyone tried inserting a folder.jpg image in an Artist's root folder?

I had really hoped that given the time of development of this software, that a 'new' take on UPnP was implemented, maybe ring-fenced a la Sonos, allowing a local cache to be stored of the UPnP library. This would allow for all sorts of simple navigation niceties such as sorting by different headings, hyperlinking to artists now playing, cover art or pictures instead of amorphous grey icons to cover everything else other than Albums (ie. in Artists, Genres, etc). I could go on.

Sonos it certainly ain't, and in that failing, I do wonder how the new products will fair, let alone the new app. Software really, really matters nowadays, and not just in the visual sense. 'Dumb blonde', latest model, just came into my mind, very pretty on the outside, but not much (new) to offer otherwise.

Allen

It's a shame that Sonos don't provide a Connect unit as a basic OEM module (requiring power and D-A conversion from the host) to fit inside other manufactures products. I know of a few systems that allow a Connect box to be added (ie Peach Tree audio Deco) but it's not a fully integrated solution.

I'd love a Muso type box that could work with my Sonos system giving me the reliability and functional excellence of the Sonos interface combined with Naim audio engineering expertise.

Hi tice7,
Point 4 in your post states you would like the alphabet down right hand side to be reinstated.
I have this option available to me and it works ok.

Scott

Thanks Scott.....I'm not sure why I included that in point 4. Let's put it down to a momentary madness.
