New n-Stream app is here
Posted by: LeeTom on 22 September 2014
Just a thought. I will try it out when I'm back home on Friday. Anyone tried inserting a folder.jpg image in an Artist's root folder?
This will depend on whether your UPnP server supports this functionality ...

File format, bit & sample rate for the track playing is available via the "book" icon. It does skip to the Rovi entry, but a back arrow gets you to the data. Not quite as easy as the old app, but it is there.
What's not to like?

... erm ... just a little heads up for anyone reading this ... this is a doctored screenshot!
Please stop emailing us asking how to get to Spotify on the app! :hehe:
Cheers

Just installed the new app. Looks and feels very slick. I like the options to change the style and hope there's work in progress on new styles for download.
Someone mentioned there's no alphabet down the side but there is on mine.
It's a very intuitive app and I've just whizzed round all it's features and not broken anything which is a sign of a well thought out and implemented app!
One question, in 'other options' there's an option to reset streamer. Now I usually like to press buttons etc when presented with an app just to see what it does but that particular one sounds like it has some big implications. If it's pressed accidentally, is there a 'confirm' button just in case?

+1 on your comments on slick & easy
I really like the way UPnP Compatibility Mode works with non-Naim NAS, unlike the old app this mode on the new app is a must have.
Re the reset streamer thing - I had a moan about that one. It really is not required in the app, its on the units front screen (touch & remote) & thats probably the best & only place to keep it.
My only complaint is the Android support, only had the ND5-XS for 3 weeks and bought an iPod just to support it. Now i find that Android is available at the end of the week. Already had a an Android tablet available. Could have spent the cash on from the iPod on more music. Ho hum...
Using the new app reminds me of being a computer operator. When new programs were released no one seemed to know how ( or sometimes if) they worked, it was all done by trial and error. The thing is that was in the early 1970s and I would have hoped that things would have moved on. Also they were paying me. Some Operating Instructions would be nice.
The 'Naim' app will take some getting used to, but it seems to work, even with my Unitiqute 1 on 3.16 software. Strangely the touchscreen seems to be a little less sensitive when using the app.
So the Unitiserve is able to present images to PlugPlayer, but not to the NDS? Really?
All we want is for it to show the first album cover it finds. If a free app does it, why not Naim?
Hi,
The UnitiServe doesn't present any images to PlugPlayer for 'Artist' folders - that will be PlugPlayer doing its own search for graphics if it is showing artist folder graphics.

You can see the rate for the album playing, but not for others. For example I have both standard an 192k versions of one album and if you open the booklets they both show as 44k even though one is 192. It's only when you hit play that you find out.
It was there on initial installation but has vanished. Some people seem to be able to access it but I can no longer do so.
This are the only setting I get. No audio settings. I have tried a reboot of the ND5 XS, and also re installed the app.

It's in Audio Settings, not in Input settings, or am I wrong?

So your complaint is that Naim will release an app for Android? A forum first . . .
It was possible on the previous version to randomly play tracks / albums from a musical genre. Has anyone found a way to do this on the new app?
Thanks,
Jan

Following on Jan's question, it is possible to generate a random playlist from all albums in Nserve. Did and does this exist in Nstream?
Also, Nstream used to give an album total count at the end of the list of albums on a device. Has this disappeared?
Finally, Nserve has a track search function. Does this exist in Nstream?
Jan...I don't have Audio Settings anywhere on the app.
The settings Icon appears in the top right hand corner of the 'home' page which displays the name of the streamer at the top (in my case Qute E9B6) and 4 horizontal lines and a diagonal line in the top left hand corner. Also shows the available inputs along the top. The settings icon then shows the Audio settings with max vol and balance.
It sorta sounds like we some variables
On mine the home page shows the streamer Naim NDX middle top
To the right of that is a "gear wheel" shape icon
Touch that & it opens Settings
- Styles- Input settings - Audio settings - Other settings - About
In Audio settings I get just one line - Show volume control (a small gray circle) check for ON & it goes green with a check (tick) mark
Then when in whatever section is playing NAS, iRadio, FM that screen has the volume & mute but no balance.
But to get all that working you will need to have System Automation enabled as volume is an AMP function

There is no volume control on the ND5XS; the question is - do you have System Automation turned on at the ND5XS?
Jan. Once you have the genres listed, press the 3 dots on the right hand side of the screen and your tracks are then added to the play queue. (This seems to be easier from the alphabetic list). Then find the play queue and you can select random. Nice and straight forward!
Thanks! I'll try that tonight.

After installing the software, I am not able to access to UPNP server from the APP!
Any software should come with proper user documentation and online help. I am not sure why Naim choose not to comply with this and let alone setting up Naim equipment with NAS is not entirely idiot proof process. We can only depend on this forum to search for help and I think is rediculous.
Some may say the new software work perfectly, but it don't necessary mean that it work for all users. I am not entirely sure what statement Naim is trying to make. To test their software? To invite angry and frustrated users? Can someone from Naim look into this and take this seriously please.
Lastly, good software development practice is to have undo functionality. This give the user a choice between new and old software.

Hi NDT,
As per the sticky at the top of all the forums and as per my postings in this thread - if you have issues and require support *PLEASE* contact us directly at support@naimaudio.com ... We *KNOW* that some people are experiencing issues playing from UPnP and we want to get to the bottom of those issues but the only way that we will do so is to get information from those people experiencing them so please help us to help you here.
We have spent a significant amount of time testing the application before it went out and for *MOST* of the users who have used it it so far it has been a transparent process with no issues.
Please email us directly and we will try to assist you...

If I go to AUDIO SETTINGS The only thing I can do is to check or uncek the visualizatio of the volume and nothing else (no volume limit and no balance).
can some one of the luky ones who can see those settings show a screen shot here?

Good idea - strange thing is, I did see these settings once but they have since vanished. All I get now is the ability to check/uncheck the volume visibility.
