I migh have solved the mystery of why some can see the balance and max volume setting while other could not.

Is it possible that this setting appears or not depending from the streamer?

the QUTE is a streamer and a also a pre so this is might be the reason why it is possible from the APP to operete the balance.

with the NDX wich is only a streamer, even if with AUTOMATION I can operate the volume of my 252 via APP, it might be impossible to operete the balance.

Does this make any sense?

I think so too. I have an ND5-XS and there are no "Audio Settings", only "Input Settings" showing in the app. It would have surprised me if there was a way to alter the volume and balance from the app as it is not even possible from the remote control (even though it has the appropriate buttons) due to my ancient Naim pre-amp. It appears that the app sensibly offers Audio Settings only if they're physically possible with your particular system.

That could be the answer. I have an NDS and the settings are not visible - perhaps the fleeting glimpse I did have was just a glitch?

I do think that the ability to set an upper limit for the volume that can be changed using the app would be useful so we are less likely to have inadvertent nasty volume related surprises.

You can see the rate for the album playing, but not for others. For example I have both standard an 192k versions of one album and if you open the booklets they both show as 44k even though one is 192. It's only when you hit play that you find out.

I cant see the bitrate/format/sample date within iRadio screens ... unless while listening to a station I switch to UPnP then hit the booklet icon against an album track ... and then it shows the 'now playing' screen (and yes Rovi so you have to go back to it) then finally you see the station bitrate/format/sample rate ... or is there a more intuitive way to navigate to this info?

There is no volume control on the ND5XS; the question is - do you have System Automation turned on at the ND5XS?

David...Should the System Automation be on or off?

Update...I pressed something in 'System Automation' on my ND5 XS, 'Audio Settings' is now listed on the app. The only option it gives me is 'Show volume control', which it does. However, pressing the - + in a particular input has no effect. There is no balance control shown in my 'Audio settings.

Going to post a new topic re 'System Automation'

Do you have the cable from the nd5 Xs to your pre for Automation?

I am using a Supernait 1 with the ND5 XS. No cable! Which is probably why it doesn't work

errr correction ......  definitely why it doesn't werk

3.5mm to 3.5mm minijack cable, stereo or mono are both OK

I bought mine for about £2 from PC World

Has anyone tried adjusting the input trim. When I adjust it, then come out of the menu screen and go back to it, its reset itself to the centre position. This would be a really useful feature for me as I use the dac inputs on my nds and the volume is a lot lower than the upnp or radio.

So how did you managed to operate the volume with the old n-stream?

Has anyone experienced the volume not going up or down in volume? Mine will slide up and down and it will mute but sliding up or down on the volume makes no difference to the actual volume heard. I can turn volume up or down with the remote supplied with my 172xs or via the volume control on the 172xs.

very strange.

Just wondering about any auto-configuration: I have an ND5-XS with a DAB/FM module fitted. On the home screen in the Naim app "DAB" and "FM" are both presented as input options. Is that also the case for anyone who doesn't have this module fitted, or does it omit them if you don't have it?

I have an NDX with no module fitted and am not being presented with DAB/FM as options.

Graeme,
Nothing showing for me either with regard to dab.
I have non dab nd5xs.

Thanks. So it's an app with a brain!

Yes Graeme,an app with a brain.
Probably a little more advanced that some folk are giving it credit for.

Indeed   Unfortunately the new app won't magically add volume control to an ND5, NDS, NDX

It works as it should controlling the volume of my Qute2.  I never did install a cable to add system automation to my NDS; at some point I'll remember to do that!

But I'll call it a big zero for now.

It didn't take me a day to go back to n-stream from this new beta version. Sorry Naim! I don't feel any improvements. App is slower, look is ..., functions like format etc. are missing. Overall two steps back

My 2 cents

The new App identified the non-existing DAB module in my Qute

Ummmm...

I opened my iPad yesterday morning to see a white naim logo on the bottom row in place of the old green nStream icon.  "So nStream auto updated overnight," I thought.  Cool.  At first I was a bit lost and thought "I hope there is a manual for this!"  After playing music from my library for a while, I think I have everything pretty well figured out.  I like the new look and feel.  I hold any potential criticisms until i have more hours on it.

Thanks Naim.  I appreciate your efforts, and am pleased that this development continues.  I patiently await the firmware update to add streaming services.

Cheers,

Charlie

I just noticed on the new Naim "Connections" news item:

"This new app is first release and an update will follow in the coming weeks with further improvements. "

So I suppose constructive criticism or suggestions are welcome.

A couple of points:

I lost my playlists on downloading the app. This is the second time this has happened - the other when I updated the QNAP firmware. Annoying!

Does anyone know if the queue limit is still 500 tracks?

Posted on: 24 September 2014 by sjbabbey

Have discovered that if the new app tries to load any high resolution artwork (say 4500 x 4500 pixels) from my NAS server (QNAP TS421 running Asset UPnP) this immediately causes the app to fall over. Am in process of resizing artwork to lower res but nstream seemed to handle the hi-res artwork previously.

Have naim given any spec for the maximum resolution that the new app can accomodate?

The Compatibility Mode seems to bring some real order to everything, it looks right, brings a touch of quality & most everything is more intuitive.

However I am struggling with one issue - when selecting an album the screen locks up & the NDX has the 5 light button cross (Up+Down & Left+Right Arrows & OK/List).  It's fixed by pressing the remote control "exit" button - not a showstopper,  but annoying.

Anyone have a solution ???
