In the U.S. app store as of 9am PDT!

It's clear that it's not just me that is having problems with the new Nstream app. It will not control UPnP on my Uniti or Qute.

the QUTE is a streamer and a also a pre so this is might be the reason why it is possible from the APP to operete the balance.

with the NDX wich is only a streamer, even if with AUTOMATION I can operate the volume of my 252 via APP, it might be impossible to operete the balance.

Does this make any sense?

Precisely.

I'm still having problems with this app, even though in compatibility mode it appears to recognise the UPnP server faster and list artists/albums, BUT when I select an artist/album it bombs out and displays the UPnP server name.  At least with compatibility mode deselected, when it finally displays the UPnP server name, it can usually connect to it.  But n-stream never had this problem on my setup (ie. UnitiQute 2, Ipad mini  running IOS 8).

In Summary...

  1. Connecting to iRadio - No Problem
  2. Interface design - Good functionality, including ability to search by trackname on a NAS source of over 900 CDs (impressive).
  3. Connecting to NAS source (UPnP server) - Works Intermittently, very slow and not stable.  This problem has only occurred with the new app, n-stream worked every time.  Symptoms are, when selecting UPnP as a source the app can go into egg timer mode and take several minutes sometimes before it finds and displays the UPnP server name.  Only then can it connect to it but if you close app and reopen it takes a long time to find the source again.

Conclusion:  Naim software developers appear to be beta testing new app on existing customers prior to release of Muso product later.

Hi, new to the forum and would just like to add to this topic, I had the update automatically applied and it didn't work, from what I could see it not supported for UQ1.

I sent an email to Naim support to let them know that they should have done better,

Phil Harris got back to me to say it was supported and what was the problem. After explaining the issue he got back to me that I should update to the latest software. All ok now.

I'd just like to say I got great support when I needed it and given the number of issues Naim were probably dealing with good timely communication, Phil was dealing with my email at 10pm his time. Given I have worked in IT I know that things can go wrong even with all the best prep and its how you deal with these issues that makes the difference.

Thanks Phil.

What's the white star at the bottom of the next screen shot for?

Someone asked about the track limit for UPnP.  It's still 500 tracks.

Also available by press-and-holding the "Genre" (or any other...) icon and selecting play from the pop up menu. The first 500 tracks will be added to the queue and playing will automagically commence. Voila!

Not read the entire thread but is there any documentation on how or what gestures are supposed to do? I have to say, swiping through the queue and it stopping and playing the currently displayed track is not the behaviour I would expect. is that intended or is it a defect? wanting to help ...

cheers

It loads whatever is playing on the iRadio screen to the "Presets" list

Your screenshot shows it as a white star because you already have RP loaded

If its not already loaded, it shows as a white outlined star ( no white infill )

Has anyone tried adjusting the input trim. When I adjust it, then come out of the menu screen and go back to it, its reset itself to the centre position. This would be a really useful feature for me as I use the dac inputs on my nds and the volume is a lot lower than the upnp or radio. I emailed naim Tuesday but haven't had a reply yet.

One of Phil Harris' posts says they recognise there is an issue connecting with some uPnP servers and they are working on it.  It also suggests dropping an email to the support address with details of your specific configuration.

they will have beta tested with a number of customers before release (I've done this on a firmware release previously).  But given the number of different configurations of hardware and software I guess difficult to cover all the possible configurations.  Everybody will have their own views on whether they have done enough of course.

Personally the stability / bugginess of their releases is about what I would expect.  Plenty of examples of major organisations having major screw-ups.  Apple got 8.0 wrong (the Healthkit stuff not working - which was the point of it) and now have screwed up the fix for that.  RBS screwed up branch accounting systems for millions last year etc etc

People keep making this point, however n-stream is in no way comparable to an operating system or complex system software. Its a piddly little app that should be correct a the time of release.

I can fully appreciate that there can be some compatibility issues with certain third party products, NAS, but having missing features and crashes are not acceptable.

@ Jota "What's the white star at the bottom of the next screen shot for?"

That saves the current station as a preset. It will be visible on all radio inputs i.e. iRadio, DAB & FM. Once saved as a preset it will appear on the home page

App is slower

RE UPnP,

Would like to echo Phil's request for more detail on UPnP problems. I have been trying to reproduce the issues with what I have on my desk (Naim HDX, ReadyNAS, Asset, Minim, QNAP) and on various different bits of Apple hardware and navigation and playback works on all the Naim devices I can find. QA guys are looking into it too. I'm guessing it is a combination of UPnP server, Naim product firmware and the format of the content that is being browsed but without the magic ingredients it is proving difficult to reproduce. Hence any detailed setup info for users that are having persistent trouble would be appreciated.

Once thing you could try is Settings > Input settings > UPnP > Clear UPnP cache. Does this improve browsing speed?

RE settings menu.

The contents of this menu is dynamic and will changed depending on the capabilities of the product that the app is connected to. One bug that has been identified is that the input trim setting is shown even for products that have no volume control. This will be fixed in the next release

Posted on: 25 September 2014 by TJ

@Maze

"Has anyone experienced the volume not going up or down in volume?"

I think I may have identified the cause of this. If you show the now playing screen: volume works. Then show the Rovi info, then close the Rovi info the volume slider stops working. Hide then show the now playing screen and the volume slider works again. This has been fixed for the next release

Not sure if this is related to the new Naim App or not but here goes.

How do you get rid of items in the Playlists on the App? These are (,m3u) playlists that were on the Synology NAS but are now deleted from there and still showing up in the App (iPhone + iPad - iOS8). I've tried rebooting the server, restarting Minimstreamer, rescanned Minimwatch, cleared the UP'N'P cache on the App, reset the App from within the App and rebooted the ND5XS with no joy. Any further suggestions appreciated!

TJ

May I suggest that you create a known issues sticky for items such as this. I suspect that it will cut down on unnecessary support emails and forum postings.

I think with hindsight it would have been better to have released this as a separate piece of software, running alongside nStream for a while.  It could have been released as a 'preview' version as clearly there are plans for a new release shortly.  It would have saved Naim from receiving so much flack over 'missing' features and anomalies using UPNP servers that may not be as compliant with your software as you may have wished.

For me I am generally OK with the new software, I would like to see easier access to the volume control and a return of the bit rate data, maybe this could be configurable as I'm guessing this was moved to make the product seem less technical, given the target market for Mu-So.

One possible crash identified and fixed for the next release:

NDX/NDS/ND5. Digital input configured to have CD automation enabled. Temporary work around, on the front panel setup on your product "System automation > CD Player > Enabled" set this to NO. Switch it on again when the next version of n-stream comes out

the app is installed on my iPhone and iPad. My system is a basic Uniti, Qute, and Uniti Serve. The old app worked well but the new app has problems with UPnP input. It will display all albums and track info. But will not allow selecting a track to play. If I play a track using the remote the app will display that album and track, I cant then change that track nor change the album event though they are displayed on the screen. the volume control will not operate in UPnP. All other inputs appear to work ok.

Mostly I am the dude complaining. But the Naim app on my I pad works without complaints. Except I can"t find the clear cache mode. O well...

Maybe it"s a nice idea to bring -with the next update in styles -the green color back.
