New n-Stream app is here

Time for another thread by the looks of it. This behaviour is depressingly predictable.
BTW I can't play my playlists imported automatically from the old nStream app, the music has not moved.
"Glad" to know I am not alone. I can't play a playlist the moment after I Save it in the App.
Hi Allen, could you send me the offending playlist file that was created with the original n-stream? if possible could you also create a new playlist with the naim app that contains at least some of the same tracks so i can see what is going on. To get the playlist files connect the iPad/iphone to iTunes and copy them out to your computer.
Thanks
Tom
Compared with the Apple iOS 8 fiasco it looks to me as if it has gone quite well with the launch of the new naim app. Still waiting for the android version however.
Hi TJ,
I wasn't able to play any my Playlists created in n-Stream 3.x in 4 either. I had to remake them.
However I do have a backup of an old one, so have sent (support@naimaudio.com) the old and the new files, for you to look at.
I did a quick comparison of the XML and it is the UUID field that is different.
Hope this helps with the debug.
Best,
Simon.
The new app isn't any faster, slicker or less buggy on my iPad controlling NDS. It just looks different, does a couple of new things, omits at least one legacy facility which was immensely useful and is buggy.
This is pretty fair. It would be interesting to hear from the developers what the strategy is for the new app. Is there something new and potentially / ultimately much better underneath the different looks? What's the goal here? Letting us customers in on what the strategy is seems relatively reasonable to me. If it's nothing more than 'we wanted a more modern look, and something that we could use to run the mu-so,' then just say so. If there is more afoot -- let us know.
Hallelujah! Thanks Bart, my posts may appear to some as being grumpy, but this is the crux.
And really, I'm not being critical or grumpy . . . I just really want to know what the strategy is! I understand (sort of) when version 1.0 isn't all that, but I'd rather focus on the big picture (I'm a big picture person) than the minutia.
I like the new app...
...when's the Android version making an appearance?
As one of the "looking for positives" guys, I think this is a good way to look at what's happened and what may happen.
The creation and release of the new app is clearly driven by the new product strategy built around mu-so, which targets a non-traditional and lower price-point market for Naim. That product has been announced and demo'd but isn't actually released (is it?!). Some features desired by others (high quality streaming services) are known to be coming with this product on release, so there is disappointment that these features haven't been released yet for existing hardware.
For me, the biggest good news about the new app designed to drive the new mu-so line is that it works with existing streaming products. I know it's easy to shrug at this, but I appreciate the decision not to split things apart...which would tax resources and (especially if mu-so is a big success) open the door to leaving existing (older) products behind. This is non-trivial for lots of reasons, but it could have gone either way. So, we don't have next-gen services today...but we have an app that is clearly intended to incorporate them that works with (essentially) all existing hardware already out in the field.
The second best news is that all signs point to maintaining a single code base (or at least harmonized versions) for firmware. Again, it's easy to overlook this benefit...but consider that even folks like me, with non-h/w-upgraded original equipment (I have a v1 Qute), can run the latest (v 3.22) firmware and enjoy the features written post-purchase (multi-room, gapless playback, playlists, UPNP browsing while playing iRadio). BTW, the new app also has what appears to be a stub for automatic firmware updates (over Ethernet) - in the Rooms page, click on the dots below the icon rather than the name of your device and ask yourself what that message about firmware could be for... It's not here yet, but it looks like it's on its way. All the streamers can run the same 3.22 firmware; those that do are reported to work reasonably well with the new app.
Why is this important? Because updating the firmware will be required to add some of the new functionality- like spotify I think - that can't be added via an app alone. And keeping app and firmware for the Uniti and ND families in line with the mu-so line is the best indication that general improvements may come to both. Not on the same day, perhaps. And not to Uniti before the big splash mu-so release, certainly. But it doesn't feel to me like there will be orphans created any time soon in the Naim family.
I look at at this as an offering of things to come - that there is more under the hood to be exploited and developed and released in an incremental way over the coming weeks (and months, I guess). I also look positively at the support and feedback and assurances and evidence that the development team is incorporating feedback into the next release in near-realtime. Not every product forum gets active participation from the product team...
I'm more interested in the v4.0 firmware release. I'd like that asap not really for new features but for better stability and more robust TCP/IP behaviour. But I realize that the product cycle is dominated by the work needed to introduce mu-so, and I will have to wait a bit. I don't feel orphaned, however, and that's very good news indeed.

There is no tolerance for alternative views and if you don't agree with what they say then like little bullies in the playground they gang together to insult and disparage. Its laughingly pathetic
This was an interesting thread exchanging experiences with the new app & hopefully helping people with issues & for Naim to pick up on whatever they need to.
To your point about it becoming a bullies playground, on a forum you can choose not join in.

Seriously
Grow some balls man.
Don't you just love keyboard warriors. I'm a little bored with this thread so I will leave you to it. Have fun
@Alan33 +1, and great post, but one caveat:
The way that the Uniti and ND ranges have so far been engineered maintains certain key tech in common - the same APIs for control app, the same firmware, etc. This has been essential for Naim, because without that approach the complexity would be too great and they couldn't manage the code and support.
So far, so good. That doesn't necessarily mean that the situation will continue.
Mu-So and the new app could include functionality not available to legacy owners, eg Spotify. We can already see that the app detects the hardware and applies functionality accordingly. It's possible that new firmware would likewise be selective, depending on the hardware. So it is possible for Naim to offer different experiences while maintaining code control.
I'm sorry if this has been asked already, but how can I check the stream info in the app? In the old app it was just press and hold on the cover image.
So far, I like the new app. Sometimes it has some difficulty connecting, but I have yet to upgrade my UQ2 from 3.21... Is it really useful or should I hold out till 4.0?
Any ETA on 4.0? Spotify Connect plzzz...
And if I can suggest something for a future update...
For iPhone: When the track you're playing is minimized, you can't set the volume. Would be nice if you could just increase/decrease it by swiping on the area where cover/title are displayed.
Although the app itself is nice, I feel there are too many interactions needed to get something done.
Minor detail: I was never a real fan of the green/black Naim design, but it kinda grows on you. I would like to see a legacy green/black skin.
Does anyone know how to delete playlists that are present in the app? I'm struggling to get them to disappear (One's that are on the NAS specifically even though they have been deleted off there already). Ta.
Whilst being able to browse UPnP whilst listening to iRadio is a 'new' plus, it kind of misses the ability to be able to browse any of the other inputs (which may be one or more streaming sources) whilst listening to any particular source.
This leads to my conclusion that there is absolutely no chance that we would be able to create a playlist from different sources, e.g. a mix of UPnP library tracks, tracks from Spotify, tracks from another library source (maybe iTunes or a second media server), followed by tracks fro Qobuz, etc. You get my drift!
Now wouldn't that have been very nice?
Not something I'd use at all -- illustrative of how very differently people use the same hardware and software. Must be hard to develop these products, as the diversity of thought is so great.
On the home page, you will see the playlist or you should, top right three small white dots
press you will see delete playlist if it was made from the app

I'm a little confused by your question however will try to answer.
To delete playlists created using the app you should see these as presets on the main screen. select Edit presets and you should see the 3 dots against each playlist which you can tap to find an option to delete it.
For playlist files (m3u files) on your NAS drive, you cannot delete these using the app. You must delete them using your computer. If you have done this but they still appear in your playlist folder on the app you probably need to clear your UPNP cache. Select settings> Input Settings > UPnP > Clear UPnP Cache.
Thanks Paul and sjbabbey. To try and clarify I mean .m3u playlist files that were stored on my Synology NAS. The app picked these up initially when they were eon the NAS and they appeared in the UPnP Playlist folder. However, I have now deleted a bunch of .m3u's from the NAS but they are still present in the App. I had cleared the UPnP cache from within the App as you suggested above with no result. So when I go into UPnP>Playlist I still see some remnant playlist items with the folder icon to the left. When I tap on an individual folder it is empty with nothing inside and nothing happens. I have done a search on the NAS using the Synology File Station for anything with a .m3u extension and the only ones present are the ones I want to keep. (Apart from this minor niggle I'm siding with the satisfied users ).
Sounds like one for Phil I will check
Reading this thread with interest,I for one won't be up-grading in the near future...perhaps when things are a little more sorted, but not just for that reason...I am quite satisfied with the sound / interface using the old app and not updating the streamer suits me just fine whilst everything remains so stable ( watch it throw a wobbly now !)
what I don't realy understand is why was the Muso not simply given its own stand- alone app given that I would think its market may include many for whom this is a first time Naim purchase ..it all seems to have been over complicated to me.
How people can be so pleased that the app has a new face, moves things around a bit, drops a few others and dumbs it all down for the mass market? Well I'm a little baffled.
Where's the progress? Browse UPnP whilst listening to radio? Wow!
No streaming services / no firmware upgrades for current streamers? No plan for current hardware that people have spent multiple times the cost of the Muso. How long have they been developing this software (when you include nStream into the equation)?
Can nobody see where Naim's priorities lie, they are all east of here. Or is it in shopping centres / malls?
Perhaps getting existing streamers access to Spotify like services requires licences and a fair whack of money. Perhaps it requires new hardware which would mean everyone's streamers being sent back to base.
But seriously, it's a new control app that does everything the old app did plus has a few new features. It's aimed at the Muso market, big deal. The Muso may well outsell every other Naim line added together.
Hardly worth anyone getting their panties in a bunch over.
Sonos recently ran a promotion where you received 3 months Spotify Premium when you bought their product (I didn't but was tempted). What have Naim done for the Muso?
Have you bought a Muso?
I have a question, how do you delete the apps cache?
