Arthur,

I have a UQ1, and I upgraded my firmware from a fairly early version to 3.2.2. As I use a mac, I had to wait until the mac-compatible patch came out, download the R232 drivers, buy the cable, etc.

That upgrade went very well, and it seems to have improved my connection issues. That was with the N-Stream app.

The firmware upgrade was actually more predictable and logical than the N-Stream > Naim app, IMHO. So, I'd certainly recommend the firmware upgrade for the UQ2.

RE your next post, I agree that the interface requires too many steps / interactions (good term) to instigate an action. There seem to be two very similar screens that are part of playing an album, but one has volume, while the other doesn't, and one shows the arrow in the upper left to go to the previous screen.

I also think that controls like forward and back (for hierarchical screens) and the volume should be present all the time. They must be the controls that are most-commonly used. At least I think so.

Also it is odd, and somewhat counterintuitive, that the 'back' arrow is visible only when some up or down swiping occurs  on a screen/ page that has the arrow. Again, this seems like an extra interaction that should not be necessary.

Did anyone else have problems with playlists in the upgrade? My playlists are there but no songs will work.

Cheers

I suppose getting Spotify for other streaming products (mine is NaimUniti2) will require a firmware update, adding the Spotify Connect capability to the equipment. Any idea when might we be expecting such...?

Yes, I don't use the playlist functionlity much and had failed to notice this problem till now. I get the message "...cannot be found on the server..." for all tracks in the list.

"Glad" to know I am not alone. I can't play a playlist the moment after I Save it in the App.

I've never been able to save a playlist even on n-Stream (they disappear). I haven't upgraded yet and just hope I don't click on the 'update all' button by mistake.

Thanks m8.

Is that the same as pressing the 'stop' button on the remote control?

Posted on: 27 September 2014 by Clive B

Simple question: why hasn't Naim Audio released a portable data file instruction sheet for the new control application? Why hasn't it done so for n-Stream?

That would seem to make sense to me.

The new app is a better experience. I suspect most people would agree. There are a few missing featuers (Buffer, Bit Rate, Green Style etc), but they're not deal breakers snd are likely to be fixed soon (I do think it's a bit childish not to include green in the first Release, though).

You are unlikely to have problems with your NDS if the firmware is up to date.

If you can't save playlists on the old app contacy your dealer or ask Naim.

The disappointment with the new app is that it doesn't give a step change in functionality which suggests that Naim remain prisoners of their own design and are unlikely sort it out in the forseeable future.

FWIW my only niggle is could we have a symbol for 'mute' being in operation and can we have volume continuously on display please?

Thanks,

Just downloaded for my iPad. Initial impressions very good. Well done, Naim!

It it has also fixed a couple of niggles I had with sorting, particularly with inconsistencies with artists beginning with "The" which, previously, no matter how I tagged and set the options in Asset seemed to have a mind of their own. (Although I notice for some reason "The Poet II" still comes before "The Poet" in my album list.)

Clarification on what the "Reset Streamer" option does would be good, as I initially thought it might be a reboot option, which would certainly be useful! :-) I see from a brief skim through the posts that there have been quite a few other suggestions.

Thanks

Reset streamer will be removed next week, ignore it

Spoilsport! So I will still need to "turn it off and back on again" when the need arises? :-)

Posted on: 27 September 2014 by Mike-B

No - the "Reset to Factory Settings" is still in your NDX front panel via the remote control tool symbol

It reverts to how it was when it left the factory & changes all the changes & options you have selected for your set-up

A reboot "turn off & on again" keeps your settings

+ 1 to sorting out the definite article. PlugPlayer cracked this years ago.

...and I still refuse to believe they can't sort out Artists' Album Art. Again, Plug Player definitely uses my art, not web art, because some of it is pictures of the artists I chose myself. It's easy to check - the app is free!

Looking forward to the update, though. Thanks Paul.

Is anyone having problems with album art quality? Since changing to the new app. all my album art displays as blocky low resolution images when on the now playing screen. Everything was fine with the old version.

Posted on: 27 September 2014 by Mike-B

Yup - fuzzy,  not as sharp as it was in the old rev

It was mentioned some way back in this thread,  not sure if it was noted or will get corrected next week,  I guess we need to wait & C

TJ   Naim R&D Designer

We have identified a UPnP issue with streamer products running older firmware than 3.15. The preferred solution is to update your streamer to the latest firmware (3.22). Alternatively you should enable UPnP compatibility mode in the app settings. This will be fixed in the next naim app release.

I have upgraded my Unitiqute 2 firmware to 3.22 and still have UPnP server connection issues.

Whilst the 'new app' in UPnP compatibility mode connects to the source faster and appears more stable (I'm still testing) it loses playlist functionality and other features.  Hopefully NAIM R&D will resolve these UPnP compatibility issues for previously supported UPnP servers in the first app update?

It should read "Use Bad Language" I think.

Stupid of me, it just sets the app to use the language (UK/Chinese etc..) that is set on the streamer.
