First thing I would try is to delete the app from your phone, then reload it. This will reset everything and may also iron out any glitches downloaded the first time.

Also worth checking that your iPhone definitely has wifi switched on and is running on the same wireless network as the NDS.

Yes, input trim (whatever that is) is all I can see now.

Some of us have seen the other options which have now disappeared so I'm wondering if a certain set of circumstances allows the other options to appear....

A volume limit option would be good so we don't set the volume too loud by accident using the software.

When you click on the settings "cog" do you see "Audio options" listed between Input settings and Other settings?  The max volume and Balance controls are in this Audio options menu item.

Yes - I can see Audio options but this now only includes the option for Input Trim.  I'm sure I did see max volume and balance once but these are no longer appearing?

What does everyone else see under Audio options?

Unfortunately I seem to be one of the few who now cannot use my SuperUniti with my iPad and iPhone at all any more.

My apps updated automatically and now I am stuck. I can see the SuperUniti, I can navigate to all of my albums, but can't select any tracks to play. The app constantly refreshes itself every couple of seconds and never manages to add tracks to play. I select an album track and it says "10 tracks added" and pops up the UPnP bar at the bottom with the play button. Touching the play button does nothing and switching to the UPnP view always shows "no tracks".

The whole app seems to be resetting itself every 2 seconds.

VERY, VERY disappointed. This app is utterly useless for me at the moment - and has made using my SuperUniti very tedious. Somebody in management obviously decided to shove untested and buggy beta (alpha???) quality software out quick.

I look of the app and works well for me, except when I try multiroom and the whole thing freezes ....

Morning all,

Thanks for all the feedback, a lot for us to get through. If you need any help getting the app working the guys on support@naimaudio.com are very friendly On the new app look in settings > about > email version info and send an email from there as it includes all the useful info about your setup.

I'll go over all the comments in detail but will touch on the recurrent one about the volume control missing on iPad. It was moved to the now playing screen as the previous version had problems with the control not working reliably when browsing internet radio as the product is too busy grabbing the radio station data from the network to give a snappy response to volume changes. In the new app the radio browse and now playing screen are not available at the same time which resolves the problem but has obviously left some people missing it! I'll see what can be done to find a happy medium. Also noted comments regarding playback stats such as bitrate etc.

Thanks TJ,

For the record, I really like the app and can see it will be a big step forward.

There do seem to be a few bugs people have picked up in addition to complaints about the UI. To an extent UI issues are often a matter of opinion, but bugs are more objective problems. Naim's first priority should be to sort out the bugs to get it working to spec, and then look at UI issues such as the volume control, etc. It might be worth a separate 'bugs only' thread to pick those up. You could even get people to set priority levels - may as well crowd-source it..

For future reference, it might be better to launch as a beta in parallel to the existing app. I recognise there are cost and version control issues with that, but a two-month overlap would make Naim's job easier and reduce customer issues.

Are you able to tell us whether streaming services such as Spotify will be coming to the current range of products any time soon?

Alex

Hi HH ... No - the n-Stream app has never been destined to be able to edit metadata...

Don't forget the low hanging stuff TJ

e.g.  Green/Olive in the Styles menu will make a lot of us simple minded old crusty's very happy

I had a strange happening this morning;  nStream was set for FM Tuner (I have System Automation on) & had been on that for about 2 hours, then it switched to iRadio for a few seconds & kept switching for 1 or 2 seconds back & forth between iRadio & FM.   I opened up the iPad & it stopped.

Thank you for your suggestions.  I deleted the App and reinstall but still no joy.  i then switched off the NDS re-booted and then it was found.  I then discovered what the real issue is, you can only connect one IOS device at a time.  If I switch the connected iPhone off then I can connect with theiPad and visa versa.  This was not the case with the precious version and is mildly inconvenient.  Maybe this will be resolved when they address the bugs in the system.

Hi moriAG,
The previous app only allowed me to operate 1 iOS device at a time.

Robert, I was having exactly the same problem. UPnP wouldn't work, but radio would.

I have just gone into Settings >Input settings > UPnP then ticked UPnP compatibility mode.

Seems to be working OK now!

Must check my typing more often!

Still problems with multiroom - had to reboot the UQs as the app's screen lost two rooms.

I still like the look of things ... except for the lack of the "green"

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by nudgerwilliams

I've just had a quick play and initial reaction is that I like it.

I like the look of the app, and some of the functionality is definitely working faster.  This is with an iPad and iPhone 5S on iOS7 and SuperUniti / UnitiQute / UnitiServe.

The multi-room thing in particular is faster responding to adding a room, and adjusting volume.

I like that the volume control is larger / easier to adjust, but agree with others that it should be everywhere.  The input trim thing being on the app is good - I will probably now get round to setting this up properly as much easier to do now.

Not sure it is wholly intuitive to use, but then the old one was not either.

And for me it "just worked" - no issues finding servers / players etc.

Keenly awaiting news on the path to Spotify Connect though.

Unfortunately it is't possible to do this *UNLESS* the UPnP *SERVER* itself supports it ... the UPnP client has no access to / concept of anything other than the current list of options which is generated by the UPnP server. It has no ability to scout around files and images in sub folders as a UPnP client has no access to (or concept of) a subfolder or a coverart.jpg file.

Hi Phil

Would it be possible on album view to get the view to order by Album Artist rather than by Album name, but keeping the A-Z list. As it seems to do when deselecting the A-Z button.

Nice try, Naim, but back in the day when I used to run a programming department for Virgin we had this thing called 'thorough testing' ... that's testing with thorough...  that's only the very minor bugs got out, not gaping holes in the operation.

I'm usually a staunch supporter of Naim's software development guys and girls, but when code like this is let out of the company, it smacks of rushed, inadequate testing.  Come on chaps...  please.

*chuckle* "Thorough testing" is one thing Virgin *DON'T* have Roger ...

This app has been run here for several months as we've been writing it - if anyone has been to any of our dealer / mu-so events this year then it will have been run using this app. The app has - on the whole - been pretty resilient given the number of downloads compared to the number of reported issues.

Now - much as I understand that it is tempting to just throw up a quick post on here saying that you have a problem it is *INCREDIBLY* difficult to assist individual issues on the forums (most people here don't even post under a real name for example) so can I *PLEASE* ask anyone that actually is having an issue and requires support to - as always - email support@naimaudio.com with a description of the issue that you are having and we will assist you.

Cheers

No - the A-Z direct access requires that the list be sorted alphabetically which - in the case of Artist / Album it isn't...

Thats a shame as other systems ive tried seem to manage this

My iPhone and iPad automatically updated to the new naim app. I was afraid…

But my Uniti seems to work fine with it. Did I do something wrong? Because my "old" system should not be supported.

Thanks

Could a little more 'official' be put up about support for 'old' devices (e.g. UQ 1). My understanding is that once you've updated to a new version of an app on iOS you can't go back to an earlier one. If the Naim app does not support UQ 1 and you can't go back to n-Stream then what do you have? Are you forced to go back to the remote only?

I note some people seem to have had success with apparently unsupported devices - what can you do/not do with them? Will support be extended to further devices?.

I spent a significant amount of money on my 'unsupported device' a couple of years ago, have managed to cope without an Android app for that period (though it has limited enjoyment somewhat) on the expectation (!) that one would come. Was I, given this announcement, correct in not getting an iPad just to run n-Stream (as often recommended by contributors), as it would now not work?

My UQ1 works totally fine, no issues at all so far.

The integration between N-Stream and the device was not that complex in the great scheme of things. My guess is the new app is using those same interfaces ('API's) because the devices haven't needed to be upgraded. So the client app may have got more sophisticated, but it seems to me that its relationship to the device is basically the same. On that basis, it should work with everything N-Stream worked with, once any bugs are sorted.

I guess it remains to be seen.

So what about people like me who has got a compatible device (ipad 4 with iOS 7) but unsupported device (Uniti 1)? I can only download the new ‘naim’ application but cannot download the old ‘n-stream’ to be able to control my Uniti….should the old n-stream be also available as a separate application?

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by Phil Harris

There should be no issue with control of either 24/192 and 24/96 devices nor should there be any issues with control of devices using iPods connected via n-Link ... nothing has changed overnight in the API between the iOS app and the streaming clients - none of the streaming devices have become 'unsupported' by us.

Thanks Phil. If devices have not become 'unsupported' then why does the official release indicate that the Naim App only supports certain devices? It is that text that is worrying me and others.

More information

The Naim app requires Apple software version iOS7 and Android version 4.0 and above and is compatible with the following Naim streaming products:

mu-so, UnitiQute 2, UnitiLite, NaimUniti 2, SuperUniti, ND5 XS, NDX, NDS, NAC-N 172 XS
