New n-Stream app is here

In the U.S. app store as of 9am PDT!

Search feature, also known as scrubbing or fast forward/rewind .......

This feature doesn't seem to work in the new app for me, unless it's anything to do with MinimServer on my QNAP and transcoding to WAV on the fly (from FLAC). It worked absolutely fine in the previous n-stream yesterday, but now doesn't work properly with the latest release.

Not exactly a moan or complaint, but it would be nice to have it working as before. Other than that, all seems fine

Try holding your finger on the 'blob' for 4 seconds, I thought this too when I first tested it. It seems to pick up the 'blob' very slowly.

No issue for me running an NDS and a Unitiqute 1.

Being able to run one source AND browse for music on another, like UPnP for example, is great. This is the most important update for me.

I was also waiting for native Qobuz. Currently using a Sonos connect as a streamer for that purpose. Previously, the problem was that I could not browse for music on another source while listening to Qobuz on Sonos. This has been solved with the new version of N-Stream. Actually, I compared UPnP music with that streamed from Qobuz through Sonos and could switch easily between the two sources. The difference is quite small. With the Sonos connect there is, imho, a very very good solution for streaming Qobuz or Spotify (which I do not use).

Best,

Michel

Thanks Phil. If devices have not become 'unsupported' then why does the official release indicate that the Naim App only supports certain devices? It is that text that is worrying me and others.

More information

The Naim app requires Apple software version iOS7 and Android version 4.0 and above and is compatible with the following Naim streaming products:

mu-so, UnitiQute 2, UnitiLite, NaimUniti 2, SuperUniti, ND5 XS, NDX, NDS, NAC-N 172 XS

That list has been updated - perhaps it's taking time to filter down through to the Appstore servers. :-(

I was copying from the sticky post at the top of the Streaming forum. Currently not yet updated

My apps updated automatically and now I am stuck. I can see the SuperUniti, I can navigate to all of my albums, but can't select any tracks to play. The app constantly refreshes itself every couple of seconds and never manages to add tracks to play. I select an album track and it says "10 tracks added" and pops up the UPnP bar at the bottom with the play button. Touching the play button does nothing and switching to the UPnP view always shows "no tracks".

The whole app seems to be resetting itself every 2 seconds.

VERY, VERY disappointed. This app is utterly useless for me at the moment - and has made using my SuperUniti very tedious. Somebody in management obviously decided to shove untested and buggy beta (alpha???) quality software out quick.

Robert, I was having exactly the same problem. UPnP wouldn't work, but radio would.

I have just gone into Settings >Input settings > UPnP then ticked UPnP compatibility mode.

Seems to be working OK now!

Richard

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it didn't help at all :-(

The app is constantly refreshing, so it was almost impossible to even get into the settings before is refreshed itself and just dumped me out of the settings menu. Even when I managed to set UPnP Compatibility, it just refreshed and reset itself a split second later anyway.

I am completely at a loss. Both the iPad and the iPhone are reacting exactly the same. I have restarted my whole network, rebooted the devices, restarted the SuperUniti... And at all nothing helps.

This is exactly what I am experiencing with my ndx!

Now - much as I understand that it is tempting to just throw up a quick post on here saying that you have a problem it is *INCREDIBLY* difficult to assist individual issues on the forums (most people here don't even post under a real name for example) so can I *PLEASE* ask anyone that actually is having an issue and requires support to - as always - email support@naimaudio.com with a description of the issue that you are having and we will assist you.

Cheers

Phil

Still waiting for feedback from the official support. Nothing at all yet... So it seemed a reasonable idea to post here in the vain hope that someone might be able to help ;-)

I kind of like the new app. For me the pluses are the ability to browse upnp while listening to other sources, the UI, and general feeling everything is faster. Minuses is not having info (type, buffer, etc) on the radio stream or the file playing.

I have a question: what's the use of the input trim? I move the slider up and down and nothing happens. I'm using a ND5XS. Is this just a function for other network players?

My guess is the product list of supported devices refers to the current product range. It's not attempting to exclude older devices in market.

The APIs must work the same for all devices (and the same as N-Stream) otherwise the legacy issues for backward compatibility would be vast. There are some bugs it seems, but no fundamental change to how the app interfaces with the devices. So once the bugs are fixed, everyone's devices should work.

Just an idea... Could this be an iOS8 issue? Is there anyone out there running iOS8 who has actually got this working (sorry if this has been mentioned already, I only skimmed over the entries in this thread)?

Is there any chance of putting n-stream back on the App-Store at least until the major bugs are sorted? I am really frustrated that I can't get this working

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by Phil Harris

Can I once again ask that anyone with problems and needing support *EMAIL* us directly at support@naimaudio.com giving a description of your problem(s) and then we can try to help you ... it isn't practical to try to administer multiple support queries on a forum thread.

Best Regards

Well, bang goes that theory! Cheers for the feedback!

Hi Robert,

That would be your email from 9:41 this morning? I have passed it to our software guys for their feedback and will respond as soon as I have something from them.

At the moment we appear to have a small number of users with reported issues (would appear to be around a dozen or so) from quite a significant number of downloads so I don't think we're chasing global app issues per se here so please work with us to assist you.

Cheers

Same with my iPad/iOs8 and NDS. All working.

I'm very much with you on rolling back to nStream. At least for now. I'd welcome this if it was made available.

+1 for going back to n-stream.
I put the new app on my phone which I mostly use when playing music.i didn't update the ipad so I will use that for now.looking at them side by side at present the old n-stream app is far better in my opinion.

Sorry if I'm bucking the trend here but:

1. The new app works fine with my iPhone 5/iOS8/ND5 XS.

2. Er, I quite like it. Looking different is not the same thing as looking worse. And frankly,. even if I didn't like the look of it it, refer to 1 above.

Sounds exactly the same as the problem I had. I've deleted the app and restored nstream from itunes on my mac, which I haven't updated. I'll stick with that for now, so at least I can still listen to some music.

Loving the new app here, well done Phil and everyone at Naim, progress is sometimes a getting used to thing.!     Martyn.

Posted on: 23 September 2014 by Phil Harris

Hi Guys,

One thing that is becoming apparent is that a number of units are still running *VERY* old software - I would *STRONGLY* suggest that any streamers are updated to 3.22 (the current latest downloadable firmware version).

3.22 brings with it many feature and stability enhancements.

Cheers
