Phil,

How do I update the software?  I know it should be easy but I cannot seem to find instructions.

Download the corresponding package. And (most importantly!!!) READ THE ATTACHED INSTALLATION GUIDE... I forgot to do that and ended up bugging Phil with loads of emails *blush*

Not sure if it makes a difference but I am using MinimServer as my UPnP server.

Hi HH ... No - the n-Stream app has never been destined to be able to edit metadata...

Cheers

Any news on N-serve app for Android? My ipad is now so slow with ios 8 update and it won't be replaced, because I can buy cheaper Android tabs.

Hi Phil,

THANK YOU for the brilliant support. I have updated the SuperUniti to firmware version 3.22 and now everything is running great.

Cheers!

Robert - thank you!

I'm glad to see that your particular issue is now resolved and you're happy (of course) but also great to see you now helping out on here too ... that's great and is the kind of 'community spirit' that makes me proud to be a part of Naim...

Well done fella!

Phil

Just one teensy weensy suggestion for the next app update... Maybe the app could detect the device firmware version on it's first connection and potentially warn that the device firmware is too old and suggest an update. A warning that the incompatibility could have caused problems would have been very welcome :-D

I do not believe that an Android version of n-Serve has ever been planned by us - only n-Stream.

Cheers

Hi everyone

Initially, when I started the new app on an iPad 2, it kept crashing out when trying to select a source.  (FYI, I'm running a UQ1.)  A restart of the iPad sorted out the issue, and since then it has been running without a hitch on iOS8.

I'm liking the new look - very clean.  Congratulations to the team at Naim and thank you to all of you.

Hi Robert,

Good call but we have been testing with a number of earlier versions of code and there shouldn't be any issues ... in your case it seems to have resolved problems so it could be a streaming client firmware / customer network interaction issue in which case it's not something that we could test for.

I think I may have discovered a bug using the new app. When switching to the CD input, the app crashes. It then crashes upon start every time until the ND5XS hardware is rebooted. It seems that the ND5XS also can't pull from upnp sources after this app crash, until the unit is reboot. The nd5xs has CD, preamp and DAC automation on, so I wonder if the crash is related to pulling up the CD control interface?

Surprise!, Surprise! - It was in the 2013 Autumn Statement.

AKD,

Really? Naim announced an android app for n-Serve - the desktop control software? Can you post a link to the announcement? I'm happy to be proved wrong but I'm certain it was for n-Stream - the mobile application software.

To all other whingers, you were asked if you had a problem to e-mail Naim directly so they could try and resolve it. Not simply post ill-considered, knee-jerk bo@@*%!s on the forum.

New software takes some time to get right. And most of the half-wit comments on the multiple threads are proving to be down to operator error.

Andy its hardly new software is it. Its a face lift with nice colours, but with missing features. And to be honest it should be correct at time of release

Exactly what this thread didn't need.  Maybe we should start another one?

Anyway, one idiot on ignore will at least waste less of my time.

Hi,

Just checked and no - we definitely have no plans in the pipeline to produce an Android version of n-Serve ...

David, Solid Air, Phil Harris, and others;

Thanks for the replies from those with s similar experience to mine, and also from those who have had no problems.

I continued to set and re-enter the settings on my phone, and eventually, it seemed to take. But I did not have the easy, rapid 'update and play music' experience that many others did.

I haven't had a time to go through the various settings and control items so I won't offer any opinion about the user interface. As I mentioned in another thread, I am very pleased that Naim continues to evaluate it's control app, and I don't expect that it will come without some changes that need some adjustment on the part of the user as well.

But certainy having the Mu-so identity so prominent at start up, or set up, however, did not make the update process more intuitive.

Apple can't do it, Microsoft can't do it (Adobe, Oracle, Nikon) but you expect Naim, whose main development activity is rightly on music reproduction, to do it exactly right first time.

It clearly also isn't just a facelift. That is your simplistic assessment of it. And for most people it is working very well.

It works well for me and i like the look of it, however anyone with any knowledge would have noticed the quite blatant omissions. My opinion.

If it isnt just a face lift please list the large list of wonderful new features it has brought

So, after reading through here, I'm assuming the new app doesn't work with an original NaimUniti unless software updates have been done.

Unfortunately, the update on the Apple site fails to state that.

Which, after trial and error I have discovered.

Therefore my Uniti in the bedroom has lost all iPad/iPhone connection.

That seems totally bizarre. I bought into Naim purely because of the reputation for looking after customers. Seems a mistake may have been made.

I don't want to get into a flaming contest here. This forum has always been friendly to now. But we really don't need to have someone insulting people who are having problems.

Yes some people (me included!!) had a good old moan about the app update. It is a typical (over)reaction when something you use every day is suddenly upgraded and doesn't work any more - without any hints as to why. Emailing in parallel meant that I got a great support from Phil and everything works again, and the grumps here have been taken back.

Phil is doing an absolutely fantastic job of supporting everyone and keeping this thread extremely friendly and professional. Maybe we should just leave things to him to handle. He's making sure that Naim is showing itself to be a very customer orientated and profession company!

Hi Jon,

We've tested with earlier versions of firmware and there *SHOULDN'T* be issues with using earlier firmware but from the dozen or so reported issues that we've had today it seems that in *SOME* networks then there may be issues and in *SOME* cases it has proven that updating the product to the latest firmware has resolved those issues ...

We are working through the issues that have been emailed to us and will endeavour to have them resolved as quickly as possible.

Phil

Robert,

My sincere apologies if I offended you as you are one who, having declared a problem, then takes the  time to identify that it's been sorted. However a number of people don't bother to do that.

Quite right about Phil. He is a credit to the Naim family.
