Please Naim, can I go back to the n-Stream app

Thanks.
Yes, one should always try to keep things in proportion. The app in of itself isn't making us look elsewhere, but as Daunt alludes to, if the cogs are turning the disappointment with the app adds oil. Maybe our esteemed dealer will talk me off the ledge tomorrow. Or maybe he'll show me alternatives. I'm so sick of the hardware QC and reliability issues and software bugs that the latter is very appealing. But then again, the sound quality and style of delivery is so special. I suppose that if nothing else, sticking and hoping will cost the least money.
I can see that very well, and you've certainly been afflicted with problems. That 'bugger it' moment will always be lurking, and for £45k plus, it should not be there in the first place In an ideal world.
I saw a Chord streamer and preamp on their website, to which you add a power amp. Two boxes instead of six, one little rack and no spaghetti to get in a muddle over - it certainly makes you think. Or a Linn streamer cum preamp into active speakers.... The world is changing and Naim need to follow I think. Do we want front rooms looking like Hifi dealerships? At a totally different level, the SuperUniti is just so neat and easy compared to the multi box systems I've had for thirty years. If you are fed up, maybe a change would do you good.
@ChrisH - I haven't seen that and will look. The page I liked, cos I am sad technologist, was the stats page - bitrate etc and it's still there - except there is a bug so it only flashes up long enouh to not be read - hopefully this will be fixed.
Yes, good news, this is one that many have mentioned as a big omission, andI according to the list from TJ in the link, this is one that should be rectified.
My eyes for one are not good enough to read the display on my Superuniti from 10ft!
@AlanB - A friend gave me and older n-Serve ipa file but iTunes knew it wasn't mine and wouldn't restore it unfortunately. There may be a fix, but I haven't found it and perhaps the fixes coming will help the App overall.
The thing is with n-Stream and the things it controls - I hide them away pretty much because with n-Stream it's hardly ever necessary to access the lovely black boxes. It gives me the flexibility of mounting my kit where I want and how I want and still have full control - and for that I thank Naim. The problem I have with the app is that it is now a mess for me (Though not for others it seems) nd makes that decision to make the kit less accessible rather awkward so its importance is therefore magnified.
But other's are right, I should have contacted Phil first which, on reflection would have been polite - I am sure many candles have been burnt in the effort to make things better and for that I thank the team in Salisbury.
If you have a Mac and use Time Machine to back it up, you should be able to go back and find the old version of nstream in there somewhere.
That's the spirit! If we didn't accept change we'd still be swinging from the trees.
I have just come back from me 'olidays and what do I find? Not just a new NAIM app for my crappy iPad but also the app works on Android. Why couldn't NAIM have done this 6 months ago and then I wouldn't have had to buy an expensive but crappy iPad.
Now can anyone tell me where I can download a manual for the new App. We have been listening to France Music for over a month now and I can see it under genre=classical, country=france but I now no longer know how to add it to presets. A truly wonderful radio station btw.

It's the STAR init?
Yep
My iPad & iPhone Apps are both very slow when changing views and it crashes randomly too - is anyone else experiencing this?
Mine crashes sometimes when going from portrait to landscape orientation on iPad. No idea why, nStream didn't behave like this. It also will not retain play lists and when I look into the ghost lists it crashes. Restarting after this event sees the app repeatedly crashing after about two seconds of run time, which will only be rectified on deletion and reinstallation. No idea why. nStream didn't behave like this.
Harry,
Have a look at the fixes scheduled for the new release here:
https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...for-ios-next-release
I originally had problems with continuous crashes which was due to the new app trying to load large artwork files (say 4,000 x 4,000 pixels) in album or artist/album view. The streamer retains your history so when you restart the app it will try to reload the problem artwork and crash again. I eventually used mp3tag to identify any files with large artwork emebedded and manually resized them and this solved the problem.
I reported this bug to tech support and it will be fixed in the new release.
Yes, I'm looking forward to the first patch. Should be any day now. If this is the live release the beta testing must have been action packed.
I have a unitiqute 1 and the new app has left me unable to stream or listen to iradio. I literally have to run a digital cable to my unitiserve and play music that way with n serve controller. I might as well just sell the Unitiqute and get something else. I have not seen anyone here talk about my problem...when you touch the gear icon for system adjustments on the new app, and you choose upnp the app will not stay open but for a split second, so there is NO TIME to make any adjustments. There is no way to pause the screen long enough to read and change options. The new app just appeared on my I phone one morning 2 weeks ago and my iPhone and iPad have auto updates. I think thats how the new app was installed.
So many problems are noted here and many are not the same problems, making this app particularly buggy.
My dealer said a new app fix is coming soon, but what a big screw up to release this thing as is...at least with n-serve they ran a beta first. All this trouble because they wanted to release their version of the Bose wave machine (mu-so).
If your problem relates to an issue with UPnP (as mine did with artwork) I suggest you use your remote to change the input on your UQ to iradio before opening the app. This should at least give you a chance to open the app's settings before it crashes.
Good luck!
Hi Yeast,
Have you contacted Naim with your issue. Did they suggest you sell the Unitiqute?
Keith
Yeast,
I know exactly what you are referring to with regard to the behaviour of the new app. and the UQ1. I installed the new app on my iPhone 4S and my wives iPad2. Both times I had to manually add a room (a process with is remarkably unintuitive or logical) and each time I had to redo those steps several times. I had the 'streamer not responding' message come up probably 10 times. As well, I did get the gear icon to show briefly before it disappeared, along with any drop-down menu that I hoped I could grab and adjust a setting.
For both devices, I turned the UQ off and unplugged it for 30 seconds or so. Then, things seemed to come back to life and the connections were restored. I have certainly complained about the new app, but I will also say that so far, it has been much more reliable than the old app. Album artwork has all but disappeared, and the user interface is still too complex, but on the whole, the improved stability is very nice.
So, try the unplugging routine and see if that helps. It seems to take some time- a few minutes- for things to get sorted inside the magic black box. But if I can do it, anyone can.
I'm using an iMac on Mavericks, IOS devices on IOS8, wireless to a router using Playback (good) and Asset (mediocre) and then ethernet from router to UQ.
FWIW the new app didn't work at all for me. Then I checked the firmware version for my six-month-old ND5 XS - 3.13! So I updated to 3.22, as recommended, and the app sort of works now. I still prefer the n-Stream app, but then I smash spinning looms as hobby
Just posting in case anyone else with problems has overlooked the firmware issue.

They/we have done beta testing. But apparently, we all have up to date devices and good working Network... our comments of the last released version were minor bugs...
My dealer said a new app fix is coming soon ...
looking fwd to that...

Indeed TJ said hopefully it would have cleared Apple validation this week... I wonder if the stream of Apple iOS 8 upgrade patches for apps has clogged things up.. Or, and I really hope not, it's failed Apple validation.
The new Naim app crashing when using Rovi has now started to get really irritating.
Simon
Mine has no problems with Rovi. I wonder why it behaves differently in different situations? Is a bug not a bug?
hi HH, if you go into Rovi and then start clicking around the hypertext links within Rovi after a short while the app crashes... Could be a handle or resources issue not being properly managed.. (Am using iOS 8)
Simon
I would not be surprised if it isn't just Rovi, but its that Rovi is one of the first to make it crash.
Last evening mine dropped out while I was browsing "folders" for the next album to play & it dropped out & refused to re-start, after about 10-15 failed attempts I went to Apple Store & opened it up from there & worked perfectly & stayed working.
Might be some way to go & maybe a few more rev's before they get it right
