Unitylite and new iphone app

Posted by: Vania on 24 September 2014

Hello! I am completely lost with the new app. How can I use it with my unitiLite?... There's no explanation anywhere and it's so counter-intuitive it seems only to work with the new mu-so system or a multi-room system which I don't have. Is there any guide line anywhere to make the app available for unitiLite system?

Thanks!

Vania,

There are several threads on this, and I think Naim is encouraging us to contact them directly, but I've had some grief as well, so I'll see if I can help. You will need the IP address of the Unitilyte. I get this by going to the web page that accesses my router. The router IP address should be on a sticker on the bottom of the router. There should be a page that shows what devices are accessing the router, and their IP addresses. I use an iMac running Mavericks, so I can can only relate my experience.

I think your phone needs to be on IOS 8, but I'm not certain about that.

Open the Naim app

Select 'add new room' at the bottom

Type in a room name

Enter the IP address of the UnitiLyte

Press the device name in light grey directly below this; this should open a page on your iPhone that lists all the Naim streamers. Select yours. You should be returned to the previous page where you entered a room name and device address

Press the big + sign at the very bottom of the page.

That should do it. But I agree, the whole Mu-so presence is extremely confusing, as is the room assignment. I've had to do this several times, as well as considerable fussing with other parts of the system. Many seem to have had a much better upgrade experience.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot Damon!

After not wanting to see my system for 2 days the app now sees it and added it automatically... I don't quite understand what happened but it works...

This is how it should work -- automatically finding your Naim player.

You should NOT need to manually enter IP addresses, etc.  The app finds your Naim players on the network.  If it can't, a restart of the app may be necessary.  But with a normally operating home network, the app quickly finds your Naim player(s).

Bart,

I agree; the app should find the Naim players on the network, but it did not in my case; I waited, I restarted things, I pulled plugs and restarted computers, UPnP servers, phones, reset apps, cleared caches, and on and on. Even after manually entering the IP address of my UQ1, which I had to do several times, I had no success. Eventually, it did connect, but less than a day later, the app froze up, and then, it lost all ability to find the UQ.

So, whatever 'normal' is supposed to be, I don't have it.

Vania; I'm very pleased I was able to help a bit. Good luck from here on out.

I'm really rather dim when it comes to computery - and a lot else besides - so I was a little worried with the new app. But when I opened it up, there was a picture of the SuperUniti which once pressed has worked without a hitch. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Not to worry, HH: you can get by on your wit, charm and dashing good looks for a while yet!

But, to wit; I'm surprised to hear that you saw a SU on start up. That is great (as you are using a SU) but it seems that your experience is not so common. I would dearly love to have a new app that provides a big upgrade in stability and ease. But I have not had that experience, and still, every time I come home and fire up the app (N-stream or Naim) I worry about whether or not it will work. Or, will I get an angry call from my wife who, also, is unable to get the streamer to respond.

I'm happy orbiting this flat earth, but too often I get, 'Houston, we have a problem.....'
