Remote control via System Automation

Posted by: D Churchill on 28 September 2014

The manual for my NDX seems to imply that if I plug a remote ir repeater into the remote out socket I can use system automation. I would like to control the volume of my nac82 in this manner. I have tried this with an i.r. emitter from Amazon but with no success. Has anyone else got this to work ?

Your setup may require a powered repeater in order to work effectively - where are you located?

That may explain things.

Once you have a powered IR block, you can blast the older (IR-only) NAC preamp from the IR block without needing to connect the streamer automation together to the preamp.

But this would not allow me remote control of the NAC via the ipad app would it ?

Sure it would - that's the point of the exercise

Do you have any recommendations for the powered ir repeater hardware ?

Stone Audio, among others, sells the Xantech 789-44 Zone Connecting Block with a DC power supply - a 3.5mm to bare-wire lead is required to feed the block with an electrical (modulated) signal, as well as an emitter to feed the preamp optically.

You may also wish to check in with Phil Harris @ Naim for more focused recommendations, as there may be less expensive options that I (on this side of the pond) might be unfamiliar with (e.g., from Armour Home or other vendors).
