Doctor Who 2014...

...Isn't all that IMO.

Just not working for me. Too much dull human interest/grounded relationship type stuff and despite some great past perfomances, PC isn't close to being one of my preferred Doctors.

Bring back David Tennant. Can they write that in?

Tonight's reminded me of 'Changing Rooms' - all that pointless running between spaces only 10 metres apart.

Is it still on? What happened to Rose?

I'm really enjoying this series. I just chuckle at Capaldi's take on the Dr, and marvel at how much better, imo, his acting is than his predecessor's.

Imagine Capaldi as his Thick of It character and asking in reality "What the fvck is going on with the Tardis?" Fan for life!

It's this new 'learning' ios8 predctive text. It has some clever - and some really stupid - suggestions which, if you're not very vigilant (it's suggesting vigilante), can catch you out. I'm sticking with it for now but may disable it if too many errors creep in.

You don't have to imagine Capaldi in a proper drama when you have this - Secret Agent:

I would love to remove all predictive [so called] error corrections of my typos. A typo in good faith is one thing, but the correction may be truly offensive without my meaning it!

I used to hide behind the settee when Dr Who was Black and White, and the BBC banned the Black and White shows forty years ago!

Absolutely hated David Tennant as the doctor, he was always pulling his face into a constipated Gurn,

same as Liam Cunningham and Keira Knightley do all the bloody time!

I think the stories in this series have been a bit lame but I like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. I think he combines the irascibility of the original doctor played by William Hartnell with the mischievousness of Tom Baker's Doctor.

Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor and although I was happy to hear Peter Capaldi was his replacement I'm so far in two minds about him. I don't yet see the chemistry between him and Jenna Coleman there was with Karen Gillan or Billie Piper. Hopefully it'll come.

It was with great anticipation that I unboxed the new HT projector last night, popped it on a temporary pedestal  ( no screws provided for my ceiling mount, good one Sony), did a quick calibration, all just in time for the good Dr.  How did it go?

Amazing.  Well the titles were anyway.  Clara is suitably decorative ( sorry feminists,  focused on the aesthetics at this point) and Capaldi has wrinkles that come right at ya.  Best of all was that it looked just like Dr Who of old.  You could see the strings on the space ship and the "painted backdrops" stood out a mile.  I even thought i saw the set shake at one point. Inside the tardis was great, although it did look a little like a night club at one point.

As for the story, well its Dr who isn't it.  They are trying a new formulae to keep it fresh. Its good that we have some basic character development, keeping in mind that this is basically a kids show that we are watching, even if it is for older kids.

I liked that he stepped out the way last night and made Clara make a difficult decision ( although he did bend the truth a bit).  We all know that today the world would have bayed for the blood of the moon dragon thing, so nothing unexpected there. They did not dare show any cultural variation.

Some parts of the media picked up on the three generations of women making a call on the termination of the unborn. Personally i think that was looking too deep, or maybe I'm annoyed that i didn't see it.  Moon egg to me was about the unknown and fear, it wasn't a right to life thing.

final score. 42.

Myself, I'm just not feeling the love for the new series ... I keep watching them and asking myself "What the... ?!?!?!"

I slept (alone) in the good Doctor's sleeping bag one night some years back. My youngest is only mildly impressed by this fact so thought I would try it on you folks....

Malcolm Tucker might have something more to say about it mind.

I'm not impressed by this series - I keep asking myself isn't it meant to appeal to kids?  Far too stodgy and full of deep thoughts.  No flow to it - more like walking in treacle.  Nothing wrong with the actors - it's the script I (and I suspect the actors) have a problem with.

I wasn't sure about this new Dr Who when it started. But I'm definitely warming to it. An interesting character's being developed.

Last nights was better and now Clara has 'permission' to travel maybe we'll lose some of the love interest...
