App wifi crashing on ios8

Posted by: Paul Stephenson on 15 October 2014

If you are having intermittent wi-fi drop out problems using iOS8 you may not be alone. Various tech website are suggesting it’s a problem, app crashing etc

We are investigating and will advise when we have more definite information

Are you referring to just the new app, or also n-stream, n-serve, or just apps in general?

Posted on: 15 October 2014 by Paul Stephenson

From the reports it's apps in general. We came across this on a recent issue. We had with a customer using our latest app, it appears this may be the cause.

Thank you Paul for the notification.

I have suffered this issue on my iPad Mini Retina running iOS 8.0.2

At times the WiFi connection is just lost, the iPad is not connected and all connected apps, such as Naim's, don't function. You have to drop into settings and wait for reconnection to the AP, or toggle Airplane mode on/off to 'help' it along.

Obviously Apple are aware and I'm sure a fix will be forthcoming.

And who saids Software Management & Application Development Maintenance is easy & straight forward! To use a Depeche Mode lyric "Welcome to my World". One legacy software product I manage, has been deployed for over 10 years, managing a Nortel switch (voice traffic not IP), and a customer found a bug earlier this year! Also trying to bring iOS, Andriod & Java based products to market and it is problematic.

Onward & upward to bug-free software!

My app lost the uServe this morning, but was able to see my NAS drives. I still have the old app on a 1st gen iPad. It was fine. After using it the new app was able to connect. I have emailed details to Naim.

Hi Paul,
I am having the issues you mention with a halifax bank app and and on occasion the sky app.
It does look like a iOS 8 problem as you say.

iOS 8.1 is available on Monday. Hopefully this will solve the problems.

We are all waiting

I get this problem intermittently now with the new Naim app on IOS 8.0.2. However, the problem occurs more often on a number of other apps, so I guess the problem is somewhere in the OS.

Let's hope IOS 8.1 does come out on Monday and resolves the problem - because I really like the new Naim app!

iOS 8.1 is available

Hope the IOS update fixes the ongoing problem.  My naim app works fine some days others a complete waste of time.

Still does it on IOS 8.1 - "Streamer not responding"

My B&W A7 and Naim Muso are dropping constantly when I play my music from my MacBook Air using Airply, which I have just upgraded to OSX 10.10. Am playing over wifi from a brand new Sky router working happily with everything else. Strangely iPad seems to be working but can't mirror on the iPad to test both systems at the same time for some bizarre reason.

3 days without reset/connection lost (Mini, 8.1 & NDS) - good so far

This may not be the correct thread to state my problem but since downloading the new Naim app I am unable to access my Uniti on my iPad iOS 8.1 nor on my IPhone 4 iOS 7.1, neither does it recognise the IP address of the Uniti when entered manually.

I have read somewhere that I need to change the settings on the App but these are only accessible if a machine is recognised. and yes I have reinstalled the Apps several times to no avail.

I find this exceptionally irritating that Naim have taken away the N-Stream App which has worked beautifully for years and Naim even had the benefit of taking £35 from me when the App was chargeable.

It seems to me that Naim are moving away from their traditional market to one where they are only interested in those who can afford to spend multi-thousands on multi room systems and Bentleys.  What about those like myself who have bought one unit having aspired to owning a Naim for many years.

Please get this fixed either way.

Regards

When you first fire up the app, you should see a picture of your uniti? Is that happening?

I have 'just' a SuperUniti and it all works perfectly, and not a Bentley in sight. To say that Naim are only interested in Bentley owners, simply because you can't get the new app working, is just silly.

Try turning the Uniti off and on again and see if it works. If not, call Naim customer services and they will sort you out.

No, when I fire up the app I get the screen asking me to set up a new MuSo or find my rooms.

If I go to Rooms I can then choose a Naim Uniti from the options list and add a manual IP address and room name? Even though I can give it an IP address the app does not recognise this.
When  I have tried to call Customer Support in the past they have refer me back to this forum for solutions, not helpful.

When the app opens you should see a picture of your uniti. You just press it and off you go. No need to enter any IP addresses. Have you tried turning the uniti off?

Have done all that twice over, and re-installed the apps. When I go to Find my rooms iPad displays a Uniti but will not connect.. Iphone could not find Uniti so had to add manually but will not connect either, both state "Streamer not responding".

I have exactly the same problem as described by you. I have tried everything as you did as well. I even replaced my whole wireless network components. Next I am trying to downgrade back to nStream to see whether the behaviour is the same with nStream and iOS 8.1. I am Naim client since more than ten years. Have constantly upgraded the black boxes and are now at a level where things like "Streamer not responding" without a mitigation plan ist not amusing me anymore.....

Try rebooting the iPad or iPhone, works for a while the reverts back to "Streamer nor responding"

Thanks for the tip....I have spent now more than a day tracking down the problem. And guess what: I even restarted my devices......To be serious: I am now in contact with TJ, installed the beta 4.2 and are running now a network sniffer...we are finding the root cause....this is for sure.....

I just acquired a muso, and am having problems setting it up. When required to "set up a new airplay speaker". When connecting to the must it lags and then i receive a message indicating " an unexpected error has occurred please try again".....

I have cycled the power on all devices, router, muso and still no luck.

Not sure if anyone else has encountered this

I brought my new mu-so home today and suffered the same problems. I couldn't get it to register with my wifi network no matter which method I used. In the end I took every device down from the network except the wireless access point (apple airport) and mu-so. I used wifi key sharing then to set up. Seemed to work.

Everything is is working well now but it was a real pain for a while.

Might be be worth doing a factory reset on the mu-so too.

Good luck. It sounds great once you get it going.

Johnny what router are you using?

Posted on: 10 November 2014 by Johnnymo
Hi Paul.
It is provided by my ISP iiNet. It is called BOB2 and is made by Belkin. That is wired (wireless mode off) into the apple airport (latest model) providing the wireless network.
All running perfectly well now.
