MyronB,

I have had similar behaviour from my UQ1, and I had to manually set up the Qute (which is not a very apparent or intuitive operation, I agree). But the IP address assigned to the Naim may have changed by one digit. What I did was use a browser to access the router, and there I was able to see the addressees of all devices attached to the router, either wired or wirelessly. And sometimes the last two digits are 65, and sometimes it changes to 64. Entering the correct address obviously is important for things to respond.

I am not even remotely competent about wireless devices or routers or IP addresses so forgive me if I'm off on the technicalities. Just thinking that my experience may be of some help. Note also I'm in Canada, and I don't think I get a static address with my internet provider.

Just thought I'd add that I've resolved similar problems (devices dropping off or not appearing) in two customers by installing an Airport Extreme to take over wireless network duties.

The effectiveness of the solution is, unfortunately, directly proportional to the cost - at around £150 the Extreme isn't cheap, but it sure as heck is effective.

I've had good results with Airport too. I've disabled the WiFi on my ISP router, although it still handles DHCP. My LAN then consists of an Airport Extreme, plus 2 Airport Express used as range extenders through the house. One of these goes to a switch connecting my to my Unitiserve and Superuniti. Since setting this up it's been rock solid.

The apple devices are expensive, although the previous generation Express I use are easy to pick up used for £20 to £30.
