Any Mac users that have upgraded care to offer an opinion?

Posted on: 17 October 2014 by Steve J

Isn't it only available as a beta version? I'll wait until the full fat version is available.

Upgraded on the spare laptop. Using it now I like the look and feel no bugs as yet all seems calm.

Are you sure its only beta? Mine appears to be the full version which I downloaded overnight and is showing on the current App Store - dated 16 October

No longer Beta, now available through the App. store. I'm currently downloading it to my Macbook Pro but not to my iMac until I know there's an updated driver for my Chord DAC available.

A bit closer to IOS.  More colorful than previous versions.  I really like the changes to Safari but I still don't like not being able to kill the ads.

I downloaded it yesterday so the servers were slow.  Even so, it didn't take all that long with my high speed Internet service.

The only problem I've encountered is I can't get Notifications to work.  No problem with previous releases of OS/X.

Install went without a hitch and I see no reason for people not to upgrade, especially since it's free (Microsoft are you listening?).

I have two more Macs to do today.

I'm the same as tonym     Donloading now to MacBook Pro but not the mini.  I think it's the full version.  Will report back

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.

Isn't un-usual have drivers for OSX machines?

Is there any intervention needed on iMac during update or can it be left to look after it's self?

Posted on: 17 October 2014 by Michael_B.

Full version here. Working fine on all 3 machines installed on today. Slightly faster but also maybe very slight increase in RAM usage - possibly because all sorts of install stuff still there.

Posted on: 17 October 2014 by BigH47

Apple store seems to be down.

Upgraded - And it seems to work fine

Yes, it is Howard, but for some reason my Chord QBD76 HDSD does need a driver (don't think the Hugo does...)

Yes, you can just leave the iMac running without worry. when Yosemite's downloaded the 'puter asks if you want to go ahead & install it. Mine's just finished downloading after starting 10 hours ago. The joys of living in the back of beyond!

I managed to download Yosemite to my MBP this morning in pretty quick time, but an update that started this evening is dragging on

I still don't like not being able to kill the ads

Bud,

Could you elaborate on that? I suppose you can always add Adblock?

It's early days yet, but does changing to Yosemite (which I'm tempted to do) mean updating all the drivers, applications, etc., or is the change painless?

Nearly there

Posted on: 17 October 2014 by BigH47

Just woke up and checked loading, all seems OK. I'll risk the iPhone with 8 later.

Factor in a few hours and ensure all security patches etc and a time machine backup is done first, then downloading and installing1.5h+ (on a 50Mb connection), App updates - iWork/iLife et al 1h.  Then let it sit for a 40GB Time Machine backup.... It was pretty seamless though, it just took it's time.  All is well though on my 2011 MBP and the wife's 2012 MBP.

MS Office 2011, VMware (even though they are pushing the new version) and Adobe CS6 & LR still working fine.

PS iOS 8.1 is out Monday and will enable the iCloud continuity function.

Hi all,

The download for me I guess was about an hour. Install went well on my laptop. The only casualty was it "knocked out" Windows 7 some how. Windows reported that it was not a genuine copy and activation was needed. Obviously this was not true, as I had been using it with no problems for a year under Parallels. I phoned Microsoft, they gave me a new code and all is working. I did upgrade Parallels to latest version and all is working. Ironic that Windows is the software giving me grief during a Mac update. If Solidworks and Sage were offered on a Mac platform then I could kiss Windows goodbye for ever!!

Suffice to say I love the new update, especially that if I get a phone call to my iPhone that my Mac now rings as well I can take the phone call from there.

Where will it all end....beam me up Scotty!!!

I had the same issue with Windows 7 and Parallels 10 but it chugged on through and once Parallels tools had updated everything was OK. The Parallels update was made in advance of Yosemiste, so I think it is a Parallels / MS issue rather than a conflict with Mac.

I was going to update the MacMini last night but decided against it in case there were problems. See you later Dusty.

updated to Yosemite went ok. Really like it on a 2010 MBP with an SSD.

Fusion 6 didn't run properly but a update yesterday seems to have resolved the problem.

No issues with windows 7

Hi,

I was still running vers 9 Parallels, but this happened before any update on Mac. When Windows was fixed I updated to very 10 when i had updated Mac...still a strange one though!!

Very wise Steve. I'm not updating my Mac mini just yet. I also run Parallels on there and Windows 7 for db Poweramp. All works very well at the mo!

Yes, see you later Steve. Just having 3 of my 5 a day. The other two are to come, meeting and making new friends and the 5th one is some fine music shared with friends.

Can't wait to meet you, strange that Peter has made it black tie though

Posted on: 18 October 2014 by Jude2012

All done done except the music server, no issues (just time taken up up with preparation before -  backups, checking pessimiscions one and condition of the file structure on each machine). Estimate 1.5 hours per computer for the end to end process(can be done in parallel of course).

However, I'm gonna leave the music server on Mavericks, whatever the last version of iTunes for Mavericks is, and Audirvana 1.5.12.  I know that Yosemite comes with a new audio framework and it will be interesting when apps take advantage of thisnor verify whether izotope still better( as used by Audirvana)

XLD works fine on Yosemite.

IMO, Yosemite is the best the best interface yet......

That's in preparation for the funeral of his 555, after he's heard the Hugo...
