iPad Stream-Serve update fever?

Posted by: Tog on 25 March 2011

So guys as March slowly slips away - where are we update wise?

At the risk of looking impatient or even desperate ?

Wow, I must hurry then since I haven't got an iPad (yet)!

Any idea if it's possible to run the updated app from an iPod Touch?

Michel

Can anybody tell me if it's possible to run the updated app from an iPod Touch?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the 2.0 versions of n-Serve and n-Stream are device-aware and can be run on iPod touch / iPhone (portrait mode) as well as iPad (portrait or landscape).

I notice you are still naming them as separate items.  Why not combine them?  I expect there must be a good reason, but just wondering.

Thankx Dave!

In that case, I'll update my n-Serve to the 2.0 version and get myself an iPad later this year!

Played with an ipad2 in the store today. Looks cool, expensive, runs too hot to be used as e-reader, largely useless except as an expensive web browser and now a glorified remote control. Probably later in the year for me as well, then

Hi EJ,

At least you owe it to yourself to try the n-Serve app with your HDX, it works wonderfull... Hi-fi isn't supposed to be this user friendly!

Michel

Will this be a free update for those already own the n-Stream/Server App? Hope so. Don't want to get charged twice.

Hi Michel,

Remember the days when you just had to open a drawer, put in a disc and press a button

But you're right, I may spring for an ipod touch, will await your findings on the new nserve first, though!

Hot? I use an iPad 1 as an e-reader all the time and it never even gets warm - in fact it never leaves my side at work.

Yes, I was concerned to read that.  An iPad, hot?   Worrying as I was intending to use it to watch BBC iPlayer in bed!  Now look what you have done - destroyed my dream

Thanks Michael Seems some nice graphical improvement. How about functional improvement ? Anything this new version can do but not the last one?

No new features that I'm aware of, just a different presentation. As far as I can see it, you'll be able to see cover art before you're actually playing the album...

We'll see it within a couple of days...

Layout seems to be similar to Apple's Remote app but I wonder if speed and responsiveness  will be an issue. I love the flip action on Remote where you click on the full screen artwork to reveal the track listings.

Yes track listing or playlist will be nice. Also access to volume buttons in all screens will be great. It will be a shame if this is just a cosmetic or performance update. ASenna04

Oh dear! I better send mine back to Apple as it runs fine, and doesn't overheat.

I admit it gets slightly warm comapared to my Kindle, but try reading an e-book in bad light and I think you'll see (oops) the difference

Re-read the announcement in What HiFi. I missed the bit that claims the new apps will be free - either free upgrade or free in their entirety?

I wonder which one?

"Oh, and from the launch of the new versions, the Naim apps will become free."

Hmmm

Steve Hopkins told me a couple of days back both apps will be free.  Not just for upgraders but for new customers too.  He did emphasise this was as far as he knew.  But he was perfectly clear, they are free! Yippee
