Qute + nDAC = 24/192 UPnP?

Posted by: okli on 25 March 2011

I suppose the answer is "no", however I'd like to clarify it here - if I get nDAC and connect dig out of my UQ to it would it be possible to play 24/192 files via UPnP or the "limitation" of 24/96 on UPnP input still applies?

Hi okli

Your thoughts are correct; the 24/96 limit remains. However, there is a great benefit to the sound, as you might expect.

Hope you are well

Peter

Hi Peter, I'm OK - thanks, hope you are ok, too, it's been long time since I heard (well, read) from you here on the forum. Thanks for the info - I think I have to call my dealer for a demo unit and I'm afraid I'll keep it after that ;-). All the best to you, Ilko

Hello Okli

Glad you are OK. I don’t look at the forum that much now. I find it difficult to read for any length of time as it causes my vision to blur after a short while. I use a netbook with a 10” screen, that and age are not helping I suppose.

I think you may well be right again if you do try the nDAC. It took us all of a minute or so to realise its benefits and to decide to buy one. Ours is hooked up via a DC1 cable and never seems to be off.

Another word of warning, it didn’t take any longer to decide to add an XPS to the DAC (I flatly refused to try a 5 series PS)! However, I would say the DAC was the bigger single improvement.

Good luck and regards,

Peter

Low chances.

The old wizdom says if there is a plastic 5 $ plug on the Naim back panel it will be updated to 5000 $ aluminium "plug" one day

AMA, I'm afraid you are quite right, but I'll try to be hard to myself and resist the willing to get PSU... at least for the moment ;-)

Have a demo unit since yesterday - without PSU - and can't stop listen! The sound improvement is really great - I can now hear things prevously only hearable with headphones. Everything sounds as it should be. And last but not least (perhaps even first) - for the first time my wife confirms the sound is great!

Hi Okli

There you go!

With us it’s usually my wife that picks up improvements first; always been that way.

But yes, the difference is undeniable (unfortunately  ), but then what else would you/we want to spend our money on?

Are you hooked up with a DC1?

Enjoy the rest of the demo time; you will hate having to hand it back though.

Best regards

Peter

P,S, Have you seen that a new version of iStream/Pad app is available and it appears now free from yesterday?

Hi Peter, yes it is connected with BNC DC1 cable - the sound is really amazing! I think I can arrange a "swap" of the units - the demo unit against the purchased one as soon as it is ordered and here. It takes normally 2-3 days for the delivery. I can't imagine I can go back to the sound w/out nDAC Regarding nStream - I've updated yesterday on my iPhone 4, but can't see any real improvements so far. I don't have iPad and don't plan to get one soon as I have a 13" macbook, which provides me real computer features in almost the same size as an iPad. I've paid for nStream at the beginning, but catch myself to use even more the remote of my Qute... I hope Naim will arrive some day at the level of their audio equipment with their software as well, but for now I'm enjoying the sound and don't care much for the software. Have a nice weekend, Ilko
