Naim app Android version 1.1
Posted by: TJ on 21 October 2014
We have released version 1.1 of the naim app on Android to the Google play store. It will probably be with you this evening.
Lots of general bug fixes including:
- Multiroom control
- Fixes to internet radio and UPnP browsing
- Fixes to volume control
Is there a direct email address or other non-public channel to send detailed Android bug reports, which are not appropriate for this forum because they are very long and may contain private information?
Fwiw I'm still getting UPnP issues with the app (not the NAS). Just tried to play an album, and the app would only show one (other) album by the artist in question. Used the remote via the UQ screen and there was no problem.
It has taken Naim too long to realize that we not all worshippers at the Church of Apple. This is better than nothing but it adds only a little to the Namote and Bubble combo
Personally I quite like the new app. Yes I agree it's taken Naim too long to realise there is another (larger) world out there other than the hallowed halls of Apple but now they've finally stuck their head out of the door, tbh, I don't think it's that bad. I've been using Bubbleupnp for a year now and the new app is much better. Mainly because of the integration with the player. Do something on the keyboad of the player and the app knows and vice-a-versa. SWMBO uses the streamers keypad where as I tended to use the nexus. Problem was the two were always fighting each other but not with the official Naim app. It all integrates nicely.
Is this really the best Naim can do? I've used this for a couple of days and it is very average at best. I agree with Steve about integration but it is clunky, with over-large icons for a phone and no personalization of UI.
It's OK for the radio, but the UpNP playlist edit is average, and USB control worse than n-stream on an old iPhone.
If I'd paid £2.99 for it at the GooglePlay I would have felt overcharged. Going back to the Namote/Bubble, except for the USB. Poor job
Am I being stupid or does Android 1.1 not work? How do I:-
delete a Playlist I no longer want; I can't seem to get rid of old ones
delete some tracks from a Playlist
JSH
FYI, Naim Android does not work on Lollipop. It crashes when starting. The same on 2 different devices.
Also, I sent an email to support@ about a week ago notifying them. I never got a reply. Not too impressed.

I'm glad Naim provided an Android app (thanks!), I think the design is nice (clean), and it has (almost) all functionality I need, just a few nibbles:
- not totally stable yet ... I'm sure Naim will work this out in future updates
- I too do not have -/+ buttons for volume, only a slider, that's very workable, but also -/+ buttons would be nice
- maybe I am overlooking something, but it would be very handy if I could manage the internet radio presets in the app (and not on my NaimUniti), something for the wishlist?

1.1 does not control volume on NDX, work OK with Unitiqute; will this be fixed soon?

Unitiqute has a built in amplifier which is why the app can control the volume.. if your NDX is connected to a Naim integrated amp/preamp and you enable System automation in the NDX's settings menu then the app should be able to control the amp's volume.
However some forum members feel that using System automation has a negative effect on sound quality.
Can anyone help.......please??
How do I
- delete a Playlist I no longer want; I can't seem to get rid of old ones
- delete some tracks from a Playlist
- get artwork rather than clunky looking folder icons in the USB input
with this Android "controller"
Many thanks

Open playlist, press three dots on top right of screen and select delete playlist. For single songs same process but use the dots to the right of the song
This Android app is woeful; Naim should be embarrassed, putting out such a poor Beta
Thanks to dayjay for the suggestions but no joy. With my Galaxy S4 phone I get no playlist, no three dots at the top right and the three dots to the right of the track only offer Play Now. Re-installing hasn't changed this.
Still can't delete a Playlist I did set up and as for the USB "controller".................
I don't find it woeful, at all. For a first release it's a big step forward, and a welcome one.
Welcome; agreed, if it worked. Overdue; certainly
The point of these posts is to give Naim a prod and say this is not good enough
They make much of their association with Bentley; seriously, would Bentley put anything in their cars as bad as this and say it "well, it's just a first shot". I doubt it
And would you pay £2.99 for it in the Google Play Store or would you get a refund? I'd get a refund personally and wait until Naim got it right.

Thanks, system automation is enabled and it all works fine with my iOS devices

- That's the point of yours certainly, but please don't speak on behalf of everyone else. It's still early days, and I'm happy with progress. I've tried Bubble etc and this is a step forward.
Er, where did I say I was speaking on behalf of everyone? While you may be happy to accept the second rate, I am not. I hope Naim buck their ideas up on this very soon
Good job Naim don't produce SatNav for Bentley. Would sound wonderful, but would probably only work on certain roads and in certain directions of their choosing, and would not allow you to change route along the way.

Damn... Nexus did an update last night.... Now the app doesn't work. It's like someone gave you a present and then whipped it back 30 mins later :-(

Still, should be something wrong with your setup or devices. NDX with 3.22 and Naim app 1.1 on Android 4.4 here, no issues with volume control by the app. Works just fine.
@Streamz
I took Bonner's latest post to indicate that all was working fine after he had enabled system automation on his NDX. The NDX does not have a volume control of its own so you can't control the volume from the Naim app without using a Naim integrated or preamp and enabling system automation.
I understand that you have Naim 250.2/282 amplification and presumably have system automation enabled which will be why you have not had an issue.
Re: Bonner's situation, he said that all is working fine on iOS, so I presume that this is not the case for Android, as he specifically mentioned iOS.
And yes, 250.2/282/NDX here, with system automation.
@Streamz
You're correct. Should have read Bonner's post more carefully. My apologies.

It's not as if the L update was a secret. There's been a developer's preview since Google I/O. I'm baffled about this breakage and silence. I use many other Android apps, and none failed with the L release.
