Hi guys, i recently updated from n-stream to the new "naim" app. Since updating i've been spending more time trying to get to my music then actually playing it, it's maddening.
I have a naim uniti (latest firmware). All was working
fine with the old naim "n-stream" app. However, since upgrading to the
new "naim" app I'm having real issues with finding my UPnP device
(synology nas, using both minimsewrver and syologys) over Upnp over my
wireless network. I'm using an iPad AIR BTW.
sometimes my Upnp servers are found, other times they take a good 10
mintes to find, and will then drop out (for example if my iPad air goes to
sleep).
It's a real shame because I like the new app, and would like to use it, but at
the moment the uniti is completely unusable for me.

Have you tried rebooting the NAS ??
Then how is the app settings enabled?
- hit the tools symbol (the cogwheel in the top right corner)
- input settings > - scroll down to UPnP (NAS) & open > - set (check/tick) input enabled & UPnP compatibility mode to NOT enabled.
That should be all you need, but also
- other settings > - set Use streamers language
Also not so sure about using both Minimserver and Synologys together (I assume you mean Media Server)
Have you enabled the Synology Audio Station

Hey Wogan,
I have it quite often. In 90% of the cases my iPad went to the wrong Wifi connection: I have more than 1 Wifi connections in my house. One of them is a dedicated Apple one that the iPad picks up automatically sometimes. If I switch back to my main Wifi, the UpnP servers are found again.
Another reason is that sometimes Asset seems to "sleep" and is not shown in nStream. If I "wake up" Asset, I am in control again.

A couple of things to be aware of which may also be affecting your setup. If you are using iOS8.1 then there appear to be some issues with wifi connectivity that may be some or all of the issues you are experiencing.
And there is a known issue with some Netgear routers.
You may find that things work better if you select uPnP compatibility mode.
And you may be able to revert to the old app if your iPad is backed up to a computer (rather than the cloud). There are some instructions on how to do this in one of the app threads.

thankyou for the advice chaps. I've now sorted it (i hope). It turns out it was the SSDP advertisement interval on my sinology nas box.
After updating the sinology to the latest version of it's OS (DSM 5) i was able to lower the interval time to 10 seconds and sure enough, the nas box was immiedatly recognised on the naim app. Clearly the new naim app is more sensitive to this setting then the old app.
The new naim app is now working sweetly. really slick, well done naim.
As a side note, I'm VERY impressed by the latest synology DSM 5 update. The UI has been completely rewritten and it's very slick indeed. The new version of the media server software is also really flexible in terms of it's configuration. Well done Synology. Another painless update and a Fdantastic bit of kit.

There is something strange with SSDP on Synology (well mine anyhow)
The default setting of 960 seconds appears not to send out a discovery message, whereas other settings do & as far as I can tell its not much to do with the settings number being actually a message timer. I changed it to 900 & it worked fine, ditto 5 (secs) & 300. Then following some advise on www I have it set to 60 for a number of months.
