Set IP Tool not working, but Naim Desktop Client is....

Anyone ever had an issue with the Naim Set IP Tool for NS0x / HDX / UnitiServe, in that it couldn't locate a server on the network that the Desktop Client could?

I'm trying to reset the IP address back to DHCP (from static).

You need the nice Mr Harris. Maybe there is an Unset IP tool.

The tool has worked for as long as it has been separate from the Desktop Client...until now.

No, it definitely is not.

Although the Desktop Client works without a hitch, it appears that I may have to spawn a Windows VM and join it to the NAIM workgroup just to re-set the IP on the UnitiServe....

...and that did it–thanks AllenB.

I thought that the most common default workgroup name was "home."  In any event, I learned long ago that it has to be Naim for the Naim servers to be happy.

The Set IP Tool's discovery method looks to be a legacy of the Netstreams / NaimNet products, using an XML file to set all room parameters for a device.

For Windows Professional, the default workgroup is WORKGROUP, and for Home Premium / Basic it seems to be MSHOME, if I recall correctly. I use neither, so....

Definitively a Windows issue. I remember having been unable to run SetIPTools on my Vaio with Vista, even with Phil's help. I was using the Netstreams software to change servers' addressing mode with no problems.

The day I upgraded my computer to Windows7, it worked.

This was a fresh Win7 VM, but–hey, not a problem....

Would I be right in thinking that setting the IP address (of a Unitiserve) is not an option for Mac users?

Yep, I think that's correct.

Can anyone explain to a dummy like me why the set ip thing exists? I thought the whole point of a DHCP server was that it was in charge of IP addresses, and clients took their orders from it. Giving my Unitiserve a static IP add. in my router settings helped a lot - should I borrow a Windows laptop and set it with the tool as well?

I'd leave it alone unless there's an obvious reason to change it

Thanks David, I'm sure you're right, my network is behaving quite well at the moment, so 'if it aint bust, don't fix it.' Nonetheless, I'd like to satisfy my curiosity as to the difference between fixing ip add at the server and at the client.
