HDtracks...What is going on?!

Posted by: The Meerkat on 04 November 2014

I emailed HDtracks UK today, and asked them why the new John Lennon albums, which are now available in 96/24 Hi-Res downloads, are not available on their UK site. I was told it was because of record label restrictions. I then pointed out that the Paul MCcartney albums were available, and that they were on the same record label as Lennon's. Universal Music. I just don't get it!

The John Lennon 'Signature', box set in 96/24 Hi-Res download, is also meant to be released today (4th November), but I haven't seen it available anywhere.

The good news is though, the individual albums are available on HighResAudio, based in Germany.

I think that the national and regional restrictions on all licence arrangements will inevitably just disappear into irrelevance in the age of true inter-connectedness. But until then, it's frustrating for sure.

Up here in 'merica's toque, we are often frustrated by content restrictions that don't apply south of the 49th on the other side of an imaginary line.
