aac to apple lossless - quick question.

Posted by: dap1 on 05 November 2014

The ongoing saga continues for me setting up my UL using yazsoft and my IMAC as my server a good deal of my itunes music wont play on my UL ' can't play skipped track' i think it reads  .. If i go to that track in my library and create a ALAC lossless file therefore creating it twice in my library and then deleting the AAC version the UL plays it .. albeit losing the connection most of the time and stuttering through the track it will play  ... is this the norm ? am i doing something wrong ? I understand it wont play protected files but AAC ???? looks like I'll have to spend another 48 man hours going through my library just to be able to listen to my music  .. That's of course if and when N- stream decides to work on my ipad .. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did the OP not say that many of the AACs wouldn't play at all? The conversion to ALAC was a work-around. Anyway, this seems to be more about network and UPnP issues than file formats. Of course....I am usually wrong.....

BTW, the avatar is the Hood and not Brains from Mr Anderson's puppetry, and he was more villainous than smart.....

Captain Scarlett, bewilderingly, gets much less attention than Thunderbirds. And my favourite, Stingray, gets none at all. It's all classic stuff.

I'm not sure who the OP is, is OP and dap1 the same?  Anyway after reading the original post I have concluded I have no idea what is being asked

OP = Original Poster = dap1

Agree that the issue is far from clear.

If it's just a piece of software, that's pretty easy to sort out. YazSoft has discontinued development of Playback, and it (frankly) wasn't very comprehensive anyways. Go with Asset UPnP (MinimServer is also good but not as easy to set up for a beginner, IMHO).

Indeed all great stuff, however although Captain Scarlett came later and used more advanced, better proportioned puppets, I felt the 25 minutes or so per story too short. I think Thunderbirds at about 50 mins had time to develop better more involved stories and characters and has therefore perhaps stood the test of time better. For me the best thing about Stingray were the jumping fish, the theme tune and Marina

UFO is another classic  Anderson series, with people as opposed to puppets this time, but not so easy to get access to these days, and don't let's forget the ridiculous but enjoyable Joe 90.
