HDX display randomly lights up

Posted by: sktn77a on 06 November 2014

The touch screen display backlight on my HDX turns off after 30 seconds, as it is set to do.  However, occasionally, I see it light up and then turn off again.  Anybody else seen this?  Does the display light up when the network polls the HDX?

Changing tracks?

Don't think so, this occurs when the HDX isn't playing anything.

Strange, I've never seen this happening with my HDX

Maybe interfere from another remote control such as a TV remote?

This sometimes happens on my UQ2 which is connected by wifi which I guess is due to it dropping and reestablishing connection to the network (when it lights up it shows the upnp server name rather than the playlist/history).

Yes, that's what I thought at first (may still be).  Here's what's happened.  I had the hard drive(s) replace about 5 months ago.  Everything was fine over the summer.  Over the last month-or-so, I've noticed the display on my HDX would periodically light up on its own.  More recently, I have seen the Naim CD image with "loading" on the display (I had done nothing with the system - it was doing this on its own).  Today the HDX (after being on for a couple of weeks) was stuck at the "Starting" screen on the internal display.  Looks like it switched itself off and on again and got hung up (which makes me think it isn't a network issue).  I had to put the HDX into standby and then power it off to get it to start up again (there were no power outages during any of this time and I hadn't turned the unit off prior to this).

I've sent Phil Harris an e-mail to see what he thinks.

You should try to get on a wired network.

Yeah, I have a 50' Ethernet cable - maybe I'll try that.

(Of course, the wife is going to love it!)

Yeah, I know - but life's too short, and crawl spaces occasionally need reconnaissance!

As it is a computer, maybe you restart it and the "problem" goes ?

Well, like I said, it's intermittent.  Talking to Paul Harris at NAIM, he agrees with Dave that it's most likely a network connectivity issue.
