There are bunch of those cars in our neighbourhood. They are very nice vehicles indeed. You can now place an order for the P85D that has 691hp and is faster to 100kph than a Ferrari 458 Italia. Faster than any AMG Mercedes or BMW M-series ever produced. The fastest 4-door production car in history.
The Tesla S has topped the ratings at many car mags. Smooth quiet and refined. There is nothing else like it. I simply cannot imagine why, if I was in the market for a 4-door luxury saloon, I would choose anything else.
Range at around 400km is excellent if you drive reasonably. Certainly enough for 99% of day-to-day driving.
My wife and I will likely purchase the new Tesla X-series 4WD X-over vehicle (available late 2015) in a couple of years.

I bought a Currie iZip a couple of years ago:
It's heavy compared to a normal bicycle, so the electric pedal assist remains engaged at all times, and I simply throttle up for going uphill. At age 58, and after multiple lumbar surgeries, the main thing I was looking for was smooth, consistent pedaling, and with a minimum of jarring movements. This bicycle works well for me -- it has greatly extended the range I can travel and allows me to take good advantage of our city's extensive path system.

It's hard to believe you do.
They're not as silent as you might think. The tyre noise is the main sound that you hear from cars (rapidy accelerating AMG Mercedes notwithstanding). Teslas certainly don't sneak up on me when I'm riding. They are just as easy to hear as any other car. I get passed by at least one, and sometimes several, each day.

An electric Toyota overtook me a couple of weeks ago when I was out on my bike. I didn't hear it coming, it gave me bit of a shock when it appeared at the side of me.
No way was it as noisy as an "explosion engine" car.

Near silent from the the inside. In any case, hearing the car as it runs me down doesn't make me any less run down. (I didn't know Toyota were making electric cars).
Interestingly I saw an article on an electric Harley Davidson recently, if you can convince motorbike riders, even Harley ones, to move to electric power there is hope for all of us.

This is quite interesting. It tracks the electric bike's trajectory in closing the gap the traditional bikes in terms of speed at the TT. They are now just shy of the 1984 outright record. They have closed 4 decades in 4 years.
