Not a good week...
Posted by: GraemeH on 14 November 2014
Last Friday evening our central heating and hot water went off and by Saturday morning the boiler was condemned. We discovered all our pipework is substandard and needs replaced before the a new boiler can be installed - A £4.5k job min.
So a less than jolly week has ensued - three kids, us and not even an electric shower.
Get up yesterday at the usual 6:15 and boil kettle for a wash and shave and the bathroom light pops. Wash and shave in darkness and, as we are all in the lobby ready to head out to work, I go to open the front door and the handle comes off in my had - I kid you not.
Get home that same evening and the tumble drier decides to pack it in...
Sitting here waiting for Scottish Gas to appear.
As I say, not the best week, so far.

Poor you G! I hope it all resolves itself; and look on the bright side - if you still have no power this evening, at least you'll be able to avoid Children In Need!
They say these things come in 3's but I think you have exceeded your quota by some distance Graeme.
Hope it all starts getting sorted soon.
Recently had two weeks without system hot water, fun. The whole thing lasted just over two months; dealing with a boiler company which took incompetence to a new high and customer service to a new low. Somehow it is still in business. No surprise we went elsewhere for the new system. Didn't have the other things happen. Are you over an Indian burial site? It was a big inconvenience with some stress, but it is done. Still, the wallet. Hope your job is quick.
Cheers,
OW
Not changing your avatar any time soon then?
Hi Graeme,
I put it all down to that Independence vote which went the wrong way!!!!!!!!!!!
If Scotland had voted for independence, you'd all be rich by now and £4.5k would be the loose change from your Statement delivery, Ok it would probably have been the Gratuity to the delivery/installation man............................
...............I could go on, but I won't.
On a more serious note, I do hope you get things sorted and that next week and the rest of this year at least, don't present anymore headaches. Good luck.
Cheers
Don
I'd buy a lottery ticket working on the theory that your luck must turn soon! Hope you get sorted soon.
Thanks everyone. The gas man cometh and it seems 3 weeks a likely timeframe for the whole thing to be back to normal service - new everything required apparently.
Before Christmas at least....he said hopefully.

Four weeks ago, noticed one drop of water drip from the ceiling in my hifi room.
Got on a chair and touched it. Plasterboard instantly gave way - a torrent of foul water.
Upstairs bathroom plumbing at fault.
Claim on insurance - Ageas - been thorough and helpful throughout.
Two inspection visits.
Last Monday chipboard ceiling down, along with 200 year old laths and tons of black dirt.
Still to go
New ceiling to go up, specialist coving to be installed, ceiling painting, walls prepared and decorated, skirting boards to redecorate, floor scrubbing &c.
Bad weeks can turn into bad months.
The worst thing is that I have had to move my hifi into another room on a temporary basis.
don, otherwise beautiful downtown York

Graeme, sadly, life's like that sometimes.
Atleast I got my purchase of a Hicap DR in before it could be embargoed by my better half....
