Hugo charging light permanently on
Posted by: Hugh Craig on 20 November 2014
Hi
I have noticed in the past few days that the bright white charging light on my Hugo is permanently on (it hasn't been up till now). I have tried rebooting but it's still on. According to the manual (such as it is!) the light should go off when fully charged. Btw - I leave the Hugo plugged in all the time.
Has anyone else experienced this, is it something I should be worried about?
Thanks
Hugh
Hugh, I've not noticed on mine although I'm not sure I would, will check and let you know. I leave mine on all the time but I occasionally, usually overnight, unplug it and let the battery go flat as this is what Chord recommended when I asked them.

Thanks dayjay, I didn't realise that Chord recommend letting the battery go flat. Will give it a try.
Charging Plug in the supplied wall power adapter to charge Hugo. The bright white charge light will illuminate through the lens. When fully charged (approx 5 hours) the charge light will switch off. It is safe to leave the power adapter connected continuously to charge and power Hugo. The charge status is indicated by a colour changing light under the lens. Blue is fully charged and this will change through green to red as the batteries discharge. When there is no power left the light will flash red and the output will mute. Please recharge when this happens. |

Thanks, I wasn't aware of this either. I think my white charging light is permanently on - it's certainly 'on' at the moment. I will also give this a try.
Why has the OP started this on a Naim forum?
I would have thought Chord site has more relevance..........

Why not, there are plenty of people on here streaming using the Hugo into their Naim gear. There have been posts on here over recent days asking questions about turntables, AV amps, Nas drives, Deviolet systems etc etc, and non of those were Naim either. Would be a pretty boring forum if we banned non Naim from being discussed especially for equipment that lots of members are using, where's the harm?
Who said anything about banning?
I still think that a particular problem with a non Naim product the manufacturers own website is the place to get an answer, after all they do produce it.
If I had a problem with my Pure Evoke radio, why would I post a tread on here I would post it on the Pure site, simples.......
I'm not even sure if there is a Hugo or Chord forum, never looked to be honest, but there are lots of knowledgable people on here when things go wrong
More knowledgable than the designer and manufacturer,
Yeah right.........

Yawn !
I leave mine plugged in permanently BTW and is currently lit up a lovely Blue . I might let it run down this evening following Dayjay's good advice to all us interested members .

+1
Mine has been white for months, but letting it run down a bit with Dayjay's suggestion, I am sure there is no need, but then I dont walk under ladders.

Followed Dayjay's advice and unplugged Hugo, removed the power cable at the unit itself, until all batter life exhausted. With the units power switch still in on position I reconnected the mains cable to have the white charge light come on. Whilst sitting near by, over the next hour the volume control lit up green, input select light white, and the battery light began flashing red, all simultanously but intermittently for less than a minute but for the most part just the charge light glowed white. Off to bed.
Awoke this morning to find that the charge light was now slowly flashing white but nothing else lit up at all, I unplugged the power and the unit had no charge at all. I am now in the process of charging the battery again but this time with the power switch set to off and at this stage after 30 minutes appears to be following the same pattern as outlined above.
Am I doing something obviously wrong?
All appears resolved at this stage, after about 90 mins have turned Hugo on/off switch to on and bingo. Now have charge light on, battery light green at 90% and "auth" light on and working again.
Is there SOP for recharging the unit from a flat battery?

Sure are but I'd always advise people to go to the source in order to get the most accurate, up to date information.
The people employed by Naim to give qualified information to owners/users can be found here. Chords qualified staff can be found on their own forums.
I've found the Chord Forum very useful.
You got me hook, line and sinker..
I too had issues after running the battery flat but found the answer on the Chord Electronics FAQs http://chordelectronics.co.uk/chord-faq.asp
However the charge light is still on - maybe it's not a problem but it's not what it says in the manual.
Perhaps I will drop Chord an email or try chordforum.com!
