For Electronic and Ambient fans- and a good cause

Posted by: Martin_C on 28 November 2014

Hi All

Just downloaded Touched 2 from touched.bandcamped.com. Basically you get 255 ambient / electronic tracks in FLAC for a minimum £12 donation to Macmillan.

Inevitably the quality is a bit variable but for an old dinosaur like myself I get to listen to bands I've never heard of (and - more importantly - neither has my son!) whilst making a modest contribution to a good cause and driving the wife up the wall (she loathes ambient).

What's not to like :-)

Thanks Martin

I like to dip into Bandcamp and that is indeed a good cause. I have been buying a bit of ambient/minimalist stuff recently. Incidentally the Jon Hopkins  'Asleep Versions' EP is very good. Quiet and atmospheric tracks remixing songs from 'Immunity'.

Agree with recommendation for 'Asleep Version', wonderful stuff. The whole ambient / neoclassical field has seen some interesting releases recently with the new ones from A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Loscil. My real find was ''Arrivals and Departures' by Porya Hatami, very relaxing

Winged Victiry/Loscil I was aware of, the other one new to me, thanks

Good to support the charity folks, I have done the download and it is ridiculously good value.

Couple of other current favourites; Loren Dent (anthropology vol 1) and Secret Pryamid at the ambient end to Nest, Brambles, Olan Mill and Christina Vantouz toward the more neoclassical end. Poppy Ackroyd's Escapement really worth a listen

Ambient's one of those really tricky genres. Is this music for relaxing or falling asleep to? Will my friends laugh and point at me. For being "New Age"?

i largely don't care what others think but this is music for relaxing to rather than kippin. It's by Andrew Heath on Banco de Gaia's label Disco Gecko, and is a lovely mixture of soft synthy swooshing and found sounds (they're the bits that stop you falling asleep).
