Best Network Solution

Interesting editorial in Computer Audiophile, a USA www mag.

It has an uncanny resemblance to some posts I've seen on the forum recently.

"Over the last couple months I've talked to several manufacturers who expressed great frustration over end user network problems. In no way was this a blame game placing blame on the end user, rather just an expression of frustration that each manufacturer was incorrectly blamed for a dysfunctional product. In addition, some frustration was also expressed toward audio dealers who refuse to learn computer networking basics or enough about networking to support the products being sold. Given the level of frustration by manufacturers and end users I think it's a good idea to publish a little refresher on networking for computer audio and provide the CA Community a glimpse into my network as an example of a network that is rock solid and (almost) guarantees flawless performance"

Uncannily familiar LAN schematic as well

Also FYI my web radio is 100% stable & has been since my 1st day with my Naim streamer

Your solution lies within your network infrastructure

Mike my web radio is stable most days but very occasionally I see the same behaviour as HAL on my NDX. All other devices I uses are rock solid - even receiving the same station at the same time as NDX which is struggling whit its cycling buffer.

I believe the issue is within the NDX in my case.

If I could reliably get the link to fail I would Wireshark - but if Hal has regular failure it will be easier for Naim to perhaps see what is going on - and I would be also interested

OK Simon,  but I will add I listen to iRadio a lot these days on my NDX  & can only repeat what I said above.

All the BBC's (on AAC)  Naim, RP are all 100% buffer.   I also listen to US & RSA stations,  some get less than 100% buffer,  but they don't drop out.

Mike, it's good that you have a stable reception. It is how it should be after all. As stated my issue is mostly with 320k stations and it's where it counts I believe. Below 256k it becomes grating. What I don't understand is while a run of the mill laptop streams Naim or Linn 320k without any hiccup for hours (even on wifi on my measly network) and a dedicated streamer cannot do it when it's hardwired.

As I put together main system again  I currently rely on UQ2-Nap100 combo. And when I come back home late from work I find myself turning on iRadio instead of looking up music stored on Nas. Web radio is very important for me.

You point to a possible problem with my network setup. I'd love to troubleshoot it right away but considering my below par knowledge on the issue, no solid ISP assistance or the fact that there is even nothing wrong with it I am at  a dead end perhaps. It's OK Muso is pretty stable (wireless) on Linn Jazz while I am typing this

Cheers

Hal,  I agree you have an issue but am puzzled why my NDX is solid with all iRadio inc 320k stations & yours is not.  The only diff I can see is you have AE links,  mine is all hard wired, so my logic says that has to be investigated.    However,  given that both you & Simon have what appears to be the same problem, I will back off.

My advise now is for patience,  Naim are testing new app software & streamer (UQ2) firmware, both are in beta stages at the moment,  but it will not be long before they are on general release.

UPuP discovery issues were one of the things on the fix list & your problem might be related.
