DSL modem setup problem

Posted by: Dungassin on 08 December 2014

Youngest daughter trying to set up broadband and n their new house. They arranged it via John Lewis, who supplied them with a Netgear N300 wireless router.  JL organised BT Openrach who arrived today to instaal and connect a DSL modem and made an abortive attempt the get the netgear router to work with it, even trying a second modem, before giving up and lavish ng, saying that perhaps JL haven't yet activated the account.   All lights on DSL Modem green. Lights on router OK except for Internet light which is yellow (i.e, no internet).

Broadband into house s fibreoptic, ethernet inside house.

Tried using via my iphone, which lets me join the wifi network but not use the Internet.  Same result using her 6 year old Macbook Pro. Tried the usual things (reboots etc).   No joy.

Have also tried connecting the LAN cable directly from the DSL Modem to the MacBook. Macbook says 'no internet. Now out of ideas. Any suggestions?

That's exactly what my daughter has now done.  They gave her a username and password, and she managed to get into the router's webpage and entered them.  Why didn't they give them to her in the first place?

Figured out for myself that the reason I couldn't get her net up and running was because I was trying DCHP, and the DSL modem was obviously sending PP(etc) ... duh ...

P.S.  Her ageing MacBook Pro seemed very slow, but then she hadn't used it for a couple of years so she hadn't noticed

Post the model number of the Bose system here, and I'll see if I can download the manual for it and help you solve your problem.
