Naim app update - iOS and Android
Posted by: TJ on 18 December 2014
Naim app updates will be available later this afternoon for both iOS and Android.
Ok. Finally made it work. 3 hrs. See what App store can do in minutes with just one click. Still have to find out how to connect to Spotify.
Thanks Kaydee,
What timezone was your iPad/iphone set to before?
Hi TJ,
It was set to +8:00 Singapore time before. Now its set to London time, no more daylight savings prompt. Please look into this. Thank you.
Bubble's support is excellent; Naim's is...........
I contacted Bubble a month ago about Bubble repeating tracks sometimes. Three emails from the developer, a log back to him and the problem was solved and an update included a fix for all Naim users ( for other users an update might be worthwhile)
Meanwhile, 4.1 has not solved the known issue of of UPNPs switching off, artwork is fixed in size and layout and the USB input can be described as crude at best
Bubble costs £3, Naim 3-600 times as much. One supports his customers and improves the product. the other just moves on to the next gimmick, which if users writing about Spotify are to be believed, doesn't work very well
It's still bloating up tracks to 500 in my playlists
I presume you mean Bubble
Have you cleared the Playlist in the playlist tab, and more important updated from the Google Play store in the last few days?
If so, and you still have a problem, contact Support at Bubble. I've found him excellent
I got answers, which is more than we get from Naim too often who just answer the questions they fancy and ignore the rest
I guess the 1.1 version on Android was semi useful. With 1.2 version it is pretty useless. It's a shame. I will avoid using it.
The thing that bothers me most is that a playlist created on my Xperia Z1 phone (android 4.4.4) cannot play any songs. Message "Can't play. Skipped track".
I also have iPad4 (ios8.1.1). The new 4.3 app seems to be o.k.
I tried
> Settings (the gear tool logo top right) > Audio Settings > Show Volume Control
There is no Show Volume Control. Any ideas?
@JSH, repeated presses of the list/grid icons at the top of the page cycle through different size options for the browse views. Regarding the UPnP issues you mention, i'm not entirely sure what you are referring to. I assume you have an ongoing discussion with our support team (support@naimaudio.com) I'll talk to them on Monday to find out more details
Cheers
Tom
@ Igor, the "show volume control" setting allows the user to show and hide the volume buttons when using a Naim ND series streamer with system automation switched on that is connected to a Naim preamp. Is that the case for you?

No. I have SuperUniti.
Any ideas on Android functionality?
I tried so far: rebooted router, SU, Vortexbox (UPnP server), rebooted phone, reset the android app, cleared cache.
I used an Ipad playlist to play. Switched off the app, turned on Android app. Here I can see and play all files from IOS queue on my SU. Then I save the playlist. After I select it, it will show up and show the tracks. When i select play I get the error from before "Can't play. Skipped track".
It behaves the same if I create a playlist of few files from scratch on android, no IOS help.
@surfer "bloating your playlist". Are you pressing the options "..." button on the top right of the browse view? That will add all the items in the list to the play queue or playlist. So if you are on the albums view it will effectively add all albums.
@igor, ok so on supernate you won't see the "show volume control" option as it is only for ND products. The app settings menu changes options depending on the connected product so you will see a different menu to someone who has an NDX or a UnitiQute.
RE playlists. If you create a playlist from a row "..." button rather than the top right "..." button does that work? or maybe try from the play queue.

I have SUPERUNITI. Does it apply or not? Firmware is 3.22
I can create playlist. I just can't use it.
I went from home menu: uPnP source, selected a folder with Naim sampler rip, selected track 10. This loaded 15 files in queue and track 10 started to play. From the "..." menu i selected create new playlist and used the name it was suggested. Then went to home menu and selected the playlist with this one track only. I received warning how tracks are not accessible since server is offline (this track still plays in the background) after i press ok twice i have red x next to the track.
@TJ
Many thanks for the answer; useful, and appreciated
The issue about the Qute2 losing info has been a running one for some time. Your colleagues should know about it

Have the same problem right now.
Same message:
"Please update streaming firmware"
"IP: 0.0.0.0"
"Need v13031 or higher"
Could you please explain what you did to make it work eventually.
You are right. One needs to be dedicated to Naim.
I feel like being sent twenty years back when computers were to be used only by technicians.

Hi Jean-Pierre,
I tried several times until it worked. Switching the unit on and off. Odd, isn't it ?
Michel
Hi Michel,
Thanks for the info. I'm trying that. I'll keep you posted.
I've two SqueezeBox Touch with I believe EDO patches.
They upgrade in minutes, the USB Output is very good and the Logitech Media Server the best I've encountered so far.
On the iPhone or iPad, I use iPeng. Much better than the Naim app.
It is beyond me why Naim is unable to do the same.
Have a very good Sunday.

Michel
Several hours and trials later, still not working, still no music.
Tried to restart the process several times. But Version 4.1 is installed (that's what the UQ says), but either the "Streamer Update - Please wait" message stays on the UQ screen (for more than 4 hours before I stopped), or the "Please update streaming firmware - IP: 0.0.0.0 - Need v13031 or higher" shows on that same UQ screen.
So nice.

Have you tried starting again to reinstall the 4.1 update? It sounds like it didn't get all the way through . . . perhaps. What was the last message you saw on the updater software?

Yes Bart. Reinstalling the 4.1 update is one of the things I tried, twice. The message coming at the end of the process (obviously not the end of the real update) was (translated from French): "The update failed. Incompatible firmware version." My guess is that this happened as 4.1 was already installed.
I don't know why the Qute 2 is talking about updating the streaming firmware. Nor do I know why the IP address on the Qute 2 screen is sometimes 0.0.0.0 and sometimes 0.0.1.5.
I guess I will have to call Naim. My Qute 2 is a brick. A nice black one, though.
Laplume -- what version was installed prior to 4.1?

It was up-to-date. I believe it was 3.2
The message IP 0.0.0.0. implies that there is a problem with the network connection and the updater cannot communicate with the product. I have had a similar issue with my Superuniti losing/forgetting the network connection part way through the firmware update.
If the factory settings screen on your UQ shows a blank ip address it may be worth trying switching the UQ on and off - it worked for me. You may also need to press list a couple of times. Basically fiddle with the UQ until an ip address shows in factory settings and then retry the update. You may have to manually enter the ip address into the updater so make a note of it - it worked for me.
Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I have tried that and will try again.
So far, it did not work.
I have contacted technical assistance.
I'm crossing fingers.
If you are not making network connection, do you have an ethernet cable connected between laptop & streamer / if the streamer is normally connected with ethernet, that connection can be made at the LAN router or switch ports.
This is shown in the .pdf instructions & the www video
Solved. Thanks to all. Great to see that there are so many who want to help.
Sorted it out with the help of Naim Technical Services.
I had to update the streaming software in addition to applying the Qute 4.1 update.
This had to be done through a web browser.
Not simple, but with some help from Naim, it worked.
Between yesterday and today, I must have restarted my UnitiQute 2 more than ten times.
But as I said to the gentleman who helped me at Naim, all is well that ends well.
