@TJ

Search does not work properly on Android 4.x. See my thread here for more details: https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...o-terrible-usability

New issues found:

When using Minimserver as a UPnP server with a Uniti, app cannot use the 'intelligent browsing' functionality. i.e. it only sees the top level categories of Artist, Album, Genre etc. You cannot drill down further. This works perfectly using the Uniti's inbuilt control point, and Bubble UPnP. It also doesn't recognise custom categories you can set up in Minimserver.

Today on my mu-so i could not play to it using Bubble UPnP (it was seen as an available renderer on the network though) without first switching from iRadio to play something via UPnP using the Naim app. I have previously done this without problem.

Gapless play is not working, but I know this may be due to various incompatibilities. I hope you can sort this out.

Android 4.2.2

The Naim app struggles to access music libraries served by Bubble UPnP running on my phone. I think it depends on which app is started first.

Even when Bubble UPnP is running and can see the mu-so, the Naim app UPnP screen either shows nothing, or sometimes reverts to a previously played selection of tracks when you press the back button. It is very confusing as there is no confirmation that the app can't access the library, you just get returned to the source selection page (so you then press UPnP icon and go back to the blank/previous playlist in the hope there might be some navigation option you had missed to access your library). Sometimes however when you press back it does show the top level music library and you can then choose and play tracks.

Basically it is all over the place.

Am a Naim newbie , so apologies if I am posting in the wrong thread.

I have a couple of suggestions - or feature requests - for the next release of the Naim app:

  1. Select music to play through the ...-menu (three dots menu) only. I would like to replace the Play queue through the ...-menu. While streaming through UPnP and browsing tracks on an album and accidently touching one track immediately replaces the current Play queue with the entire album, and starts playing the track which I was touching. That is very frustrating. Would prefer if replacing a playlist - well more or less all functions which change what is currently being played - could be moved to the ...-menu.
  2. Ability to fast forward/backward while playing a track (e.g. in the Play queue screen). When playing a track, I would like to be able to fast forward/backward to a specific part of a track by sliding my finger on the time line/bar (i.e. an experience similar to adjusting the volume).
  3. Show icon of radio station in the iRadio Presets List (on the main screen). I can see the cover art of tracks in a playlist, so would like a similar experience for the iRadio presets.

Many thanks

Kind regards

Peter

"Ability to fast forward/backward while playing a track" is already possible if your streamer firmware is not too old (I think it has to be >= 3.22). It does not work with all music formats, though. It works with flac, but not with ogg. I am not sure about mp3. You have to hold the finger for a second on the current slider position and can then move it.

For mp3, no fast forward/backward.

maybe jump to time option for mp3.

Many thanks for that information Gert and Bicela.

The streamer version of my mu-so appears to be 1.01.000, so that might explain why it does not work.

Am playing flac files only.

Some other peculiarities:

I have also discovered that playlists appear to be device-based. So I can create a playlist within the iOS app on the iPad, but I cannot access that playlist from the iOS app on my iPhone, nor the Android app on my Google Nexus 7 tablet ..... And re-installing the app on the iPad removed the playlist completely. Would anybody know whether there is a way to store the playlist on the NAS, so I can access it from other devices/control points?

I also tried to download the Linn Kinsky app (v4.3.15). It appears to load cover images much faster than the Naim app, and can also to some degree control the mu-so's playback from the NAS via UPnP. (Volume control was not working, though, so dropped idea again).

On the positive side, sound is great

Hi Igor,

I am sorry. I do not think I understand. What is the "time option"? And does it work for non-MP3 files as well? (My music collection is all flac).

Many thanks

@peter

I have FLAC and mp3.There is no FastForward or Rewind on FLAC and mp3.

You have a slider which you can use to select time in FLAC files. Does not work for mp3. No slider for mp3.

You should check if you have 3.22 SW on the Naim Streamer. Only from that version on slider is supported.

If he owns the muso, I think this already came with the most recent firmware, hasn't it? Also it seems that the firmware version for this device is not the same numbering as these for other streamers like uniti, etc.

to TJ: Hi - can you please pass this to your app developers:

 - in the new all-in-one Muso/Uniti app, would it be possible to keep the former "style" of the earlier app as a "Style" which we can apply in the new app?

- colours: Black, with neon green writing
- Artwork of current track - half current size, with mirror image effect below, looked much better (I download artwork via an app called DBPoweramp, which is low-res images. Looks awful at larger size, makes the Naim product feel cheap)

As a general point, the app has a feel/look of the new Muso product (including the black/white colour of the app), which I think annoys those of us who spent several thousands on Naim equipment and are used to the black/green colours and traditional feel. One of the comments on the App store for the new App was "Whats the point of spending thousands if the app looks like it cost 99p to develop". Quite...

Yes, I checked for mine and on 4 Jan, was informed that the Muso "streamer version" is currently 1.01.000 ( i.e. numbering not consistent with other streamers).  I was also told "upgrade should be later this month".

It would appear a month has slipped by unnoticed; perhaps they are waiting to 'release' at the Bristol show

Hi back to basics for me and sorry for dense question - I am new to all this.  I have a Uniti2.  Please can you tell me which app I should be using for ipad Air2?  In the App Store there is the n-stream and the n-serve apps, but according to the Naim support page it separately refers to the Naim app for the Uniti2, but this is not listed in the App Store.  What app should I be using please?  Many thanks.

Posted on: 17 February 2015 by Mike-B

Its not called nStream any more,  its called "Naim" & is the one with the white lettering on black Naim logo, that's the one you need.

Posted on: 17 February 2015 by gert

Which iOS version do you have installed on the ipad air2? If it is 8.x you should find the app "naim" in the store. But as long you can install the "n-stream" app, it should work, too.

"n-serve" is for the naim server. (I do not know anything of its functionality.)

Thanks Mike-B and gert. Latest iOS on ipad.  Will try the b/w one.  When I had previously tried to use the n-stream app it could not find the Uniti2 on the network, even though it was connected and functioning via upnp at the time.  Thanks again.

TJ:

My "Naim" App became very sluggish and slow.  Clearing the UpNp cache fixed this problem.  This is an issue which should be addressed.  Perhaps the app could auto-clear every 30 days?
