Spotify Connect - Can it be used without Bluetooth

Posted by: Rudy on 18 December 2014

So i've downloaded and installed the latest firmware to my Superuniti, and i'm now seeing the Spotfiy in the list of inputs. However when I select Spotify as the input I get the message 'Ready, Connect Spotify App'. I assume this means The Superuniti is waiting to be controlled remotely via an iPhone / iPad etc. via a Bluetooth connection.

Is there any other method of taking advantage of this new option? I already stream via Spotify from my PC using Jamcasts Virtual Soundcard.

EDITED: I've just found a bta version of the Spotify desktop client which allows you play Spotify content through other devices .

If you have a Spotify app on a tablet you can connect - no bluetooth required just wifi

Press the little speaker icon in the Spotify app so it goes green and the sound will then come from your system.

Thanks for your replies. Both my phone and my tablet are running Windows 8.1, and unfortunately it seems that this feature isn't available. Go figure!

You need to have a Spotify account, and be loogged into that through the Spotify app on your mobile device.  do you have that?  Sorry if it's stating the obvious

No problem, your help is greatly appreciated.

I have a Spotify Premium account and i'm logged in. When I touch on the now playing bar all I see are the previous, next, pause, shuffle and repeat buttons.

As one of the literally hundred of windows phone users, you must be gutted

You are basically at the will of spotify now as to when they make it work on windows phone. In the mean time you could probably pick up an android something or other for a few quid as a controller.

OK. Thanks for the confirmation

TBH I like Windows 8 on my phone but it seems clunky on my tablet. Maybe it's time to make the jump to an iPad.

Nah - stay clear of the evil fruit - Android for mobile/tablet and Windows for serious stuff

You don't need to use a phone or tablet. I believe the Windows PC version of Spotify has Spotify Connect.
