Unitiserve and Spotify

Posted by: Joel on 19 December 2014

When Unitiserve was first released there was no internet radio play. This was introduced at a later date via a software upgrade much to my delight.

Can anyone please enlighten me as to why Spotify has now been added to naim streamers but not the Unitiserve? As the Unitiserve connects directly to the Internet I do not understand why this can't be another software upgrade controlled via the N-Serve app or Spotify app.

Currently I am plugging in my iPad to my nDAC to receive Spotify as funds are unavailable for a streamer...

I am sure the streamer updates has the focus now because of the Muso. Naim needed to have at least one streaming service on the Muso, so it is  a good idea to update the app for the other streamers also. Hopefully some of the programming ressources will be used for the n-serve in the next year. It would be fantastic if the dtc will be updated also. Even though the servers run embedded xp my guess is that the hardware has no problems with streaming. Unlike the streamers the servers had no problem with 192 khz streaming.

I believe it's something to do with Spotify's licensing requirements, which somehow mean a UnitiServe is not ok.

Thanks for your replies. That makes sense. Fingers crossed an update appears in the new year. Merry Christmas!
