Finances of (bands) touring

Posted by: Gavin B on 24 December 2014

Leaving the National Ice Centre in Nottingham last night, my son started a conversation about how the finances of touring works.  He'd seen a poster for McBusted's two Nottingham dates next year, with tickets priced at just short of £50.

When we started to do our back-of-the-envelope calculations I realised I didn't actually know which way round this worked.  Does the venue pay a fixed fee to the band, or do the band pay a hire fee to the venue?  Presumably it could be different at different levels - Rock City vs. NIC vs. Wembley Stadium.

Anyone know any better?

Google entertainment or music promoter. Wikipedia have the answer.

Just looked at the ticket for the Michael Schenker gig I went to last weekend. The ticket reads "The Gig Cartel Presents.........". Presumably The Gig Cartel are the promoters.
