Uniti 1 and old firmware
Posted by: ljudpuff on 25 December 2014
I'm a bit confused when it comes to the Uniti firmware... if I buy one of the first Uniti that was manufactured second hand ( the one whit the BC SW 10198 I think?)
What is the different from Uniti,s whit newer firmware? Can I still use it whit the the today iPad/iPhone app for example?
Do you know which firmware is installed on the uniti? The most detailed info I have is this:
Yes you can use it with the Ipad and you can upgrade the software to 3.xx but you can't use Spotify.

Yesterday I tried to do the upgrade to 3.17
Of course, there appeared a problem!
I downloaded the Naim software on my windows 8 pc, did the install , connected my rs323 to usb adapter and the computer tells me it works properly, starting the Naim software and following the steps, after I have chosen the COM port and in the next step the software tries to find my Uniti its stops after like 2 seconds and telling me "unrecognised" turn of the unit wait 5 seconds, turn on and retry...
I have the PC and the Uniti to an netgear switch then to my wnr3500lv2 router, have also tried to install it direct connected to the router, turned of the firewall in my PC, and retried many times but always the same error.
Is pretty frustrated right now
Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Check to see if the com port dialog box drop down list has more than one com port listed. It's very easy just to choose the first com port listed but your USB cable may be connected to another one.

the COM port dialog box actually shows 256 different ( COM 1 to COM 256)
do I need to try everyone?
Really? how many USB ports does your computer have? You could try connecting the USB cable to a different port on your computer (assuming you don't actually have 256) and trying again with the default port shown in the dialog box.

I have 3 usb ports
I tried another usb port and re-install the usb to rs323 drivers and tried, still the same error.
The Naim software only shows COM 3 in the list, and if I look in the Device manager in Windows it shows COM 3 but I can still chose from 256 different
I'm afraid I'm running out of suggestions but let's recap.
You've downloaded and installed the drivers for the USB cable.
You have both the computer and the Uniti connected to the same network.
You have connected the computer to the Uniti using the USB to rs323 cable.
Providing the USB cable is connected to the correct com port it should then be able to find the Uniti on the network and you will see its IP address appear together with the Uniti's network name.
if this isn't happening then it seems to me that there are 2 possibilities:
1. A network issue (e.g. The Uniti can't be found on the network) You might try checking the Uniti's network settings to make sure that these show its IP address.
2. An issue relating to the USB link between the computer and the Uniti. This could relate to the driver, the com port or the USB to RS232 cable itself.
It might be helpful to have a read of this thread:

This is the message I get:
If I test the update white the uniti turned off, I get this message ,
so maybe the usb/rs323 does work? Maby their is some problem to update from 1.xx direct to 3.xx ??
I might be wrong, but I believe the software instructions don't include a Windows 8 PC. I think the latest OS version for PCs is 7. Not 100% certain I'm right, but might be worth checking.
Have you checked the Naim update site? For the 3.17 and other updates it states:
Please note that if you have an original NaimUniti running software version BC SW 10198 DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE. Please contact support@naimaudio.com for further information.
Perhaps this might explain your problem.
Does the USB to RS232 adapter use the Prolific or FTDI drivers as mentioned in the Naim notes?

I have the FTDI driver 2.12.0.0 installed
This is the adapter i use: http://www.deltaco.se/support/infose/UC-232C9.pdf
It seems like I need to contact Naim, and see if they can help me. Thanks anyway!
So are you using an rs2132 serial cable with this?
And if so is it straight or crossover?

I'm using this one:
http://www.google.se/url?sa=t&...vm=bv.82001339,d.bGQ
How do I now if its straight or crossover?
If pin 2 at one end connects to pin 2 at the other end it is 'straight' if it connects to pin 3 at the other end it is a cross over cable, aka null modem cable.
I have now tried the 3.22 firmware on my Mac mini Yosemite
Now the update software founds my Uniti!
BUT now the software cant find it on the network!
I have my Netgear router wired to internet my mac and uniti.
I have an IP address on the Uniti, I write it manually in the software and enters retry.
But no, the software cant find it! Someone have an any idea what I can try now??
Did it get a new IP address that the router maybe does not allow local area access from/to? Can you open the IP in a browser of the computer (or ping the address). Though I do not know how an uniti behaves during the update process.

LAN cable.
Yes I can open the IP in the browser, this is what I See:
Everything seems ok right?
Feels like I'm begin to give up.. I have sent Naim an email and hope they can help me soon, I just want the iOS app to work whit my Uniti!
Yes, this looks ok.
I do not have any idea what causes the problem. I did use an old, very slow windows laptop, as well as an apple power book (the last two times) to update my uniti 1. The first time when it was connected via a wifi bridge, the IP did change and I had to type it into the updater application manually, too. This all did work fine.
I guess you have retried the flashing again already?
Does yosemite maybe block the http access for unknown apps by a firewall?
