20% 0ff HDTracks UK

Posted by: The Meerkat on 27 December 2014

There was a post a few days ago, giving 20% off Purchases from HDTracks, with a voucher code. This code did not work for me.

However, I have just received an email from HDTracks UK, with a voucher code, valid until 1/1/2015.

The code worked, and I've just purchased 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' in 192/24, for £18 instead of £22.50

Nice!

I almost bought the remastered Crime of the Century, but fortunately read the track list again. This reminded me why I don't already own it. The track "Bloody Well Right" is one of the most idiotic pieces of music ever recorded and is completely unlistenable to me. It's right down there with the whole of Jeff buckley's "Grace" as music that I just can't bear.

Bloody well right Winkyincanada. That 'Grace' album...it is a crime of the century (imho).

I love it when posters slag off other peoples music choices, especially when you see what crap they listen too!

I agree, there's only me on here with decent taste

Posted on: 30 December 2014 by GraemeH

Happy to admit I listen to some real rubbish too!

I like Crime of the Century and have really tried to get 'Grace' too, given the plaudits. But to no avail.

'Grates' would be a more appropriate title to me for some reason.

Yes. I happen to think that Crime of the Century is one of the great albums and Supertramp's best, but each to their own.

I do, though, agree that both the price of HD downloads is unacceptably high and that quality is variable.  I've always been disappointed by the reproduction of my CD of Hotel California and decided to buy a high-def download for about £18 from highresaudio of Germany.  It's different from the CD and clearer is some respects but the bass is loose and too prominent.  I've actually gone back to my CD recording as it is more enjoyable to listen to.  Like all formats, I've learnt that it is wise to seek out recommendations on the quality of the reproduction before buying.

I think Grace is a masterpiece personally but each to yheir own I suppose

Agree on Hotel California.  The first press CD is superior to the HD which seems accentuated at the top and, as you say, loose at the bottom.

Never a winning combination.

Graeme - my Hotel California CD is on the Asylum Records label and made in Germany. It says 1976 on the CD but that must be the date of the original recording. If you know of a better CD version I'd be interested to know of the details.

Then I think you have the Barry Diamante mastering, same as me.

7559-60509-2

Their is a Gold Disc version by Steve Hoffman which is supposedly outstanding, but rare as hens teeth and silly money.

Thanks, Graeme.  I can find no mention of Barry Diamante in the sleeve notes, but my disc is definitely  7559-60509-2.  Am listening to it now.  A bit soft and cymbals/high-hats a bit splashy......but the performance is enjoyable. That's what matters, really. Think I'll stick with this one.  Cheers for your advice, though.

No problem - If you can be bothered you can check the number on the Hoffman forum for details.

If its a Barry D? you will find his name in/on the CD book/cover listings.

I suspect Howard was actually saying that he didn't like it.....

Funny you should mention Supertramp - Hilary tried to play Breakfast in America the other night, only to find that we didn't have it - I sold the vinyl ten years ago and never replaced it. This inevitably means that Halibut towers will no longer be Supertramp free. As you know, Wat, I cannot bear prog - I've tried ELP again, which I loved when I was 14, and that current band everyone seems to like but whose name escapes me, and even tried Rush the other day at the behest of Dayjay, who loves them. But I still can't stand them. Others do of course, so I've given up criticising others' choices, safe in the

knowledge that people who don't think The Smiths were the best band ever are beyond help!

If people want to listen to crap like the Eagles then I, for one, am not going to criticise them.

The rest of CotC might be the greatest record ever made, but I'll never know. I just can't get past the repetition, plodding rythm and faux swearing of that BWR track.

On Grace, what is ethereal and magical in Buckley's vocals to many is just whiny and thin to me. I get a couple of tracks in and have to switch it off.

Others will certainly think that much of what I do listen to is utter rubbish, but that's the nice thing. We can all listen to whatever we want.

Agreed Winky. My tastes are varied but I still can't stand The Smiths.
