NAIM iPad app playlist problem

Posted by: JEM on 30 December 2014

I have a problem when using Apple App on my iPad in that playlists automatically fill with 500 tracks. I am running the latest version of the NAIM app which was updated on 19th December. My system is a Unilite and I stream FLAC files from a QNAP TS-412 server via an Ethernet cable via a Raspberry Pi interface. The files are managed using the ASSET software.  Everything works fine except for the Playlist feature. No matter how I set up a Playlist it will fill with 500 tracks. If I say set up a Playlist with 5 tracks on subsequently selecting the playlist to play it fills up with 495 tracks from my collection. I have set the app to remain connected. The Playlist feature worked without any problems with the old app. What am I doing wrong?

JEM

I had a similar problem and a few others with playlists. I take it you can play any of these 500 files. I've no idea why this happens but I ended up deleting the playlist and re-creating it which was a pain! If you have backup up your playlists previously in ITunes then you should be able to restore but delete the incorrect playlists before connecting up to iTunes.

I have a problem where the playlist can't find some of the tracks in my playlists anymore (I think this may be because I changed some of the metadata on the files) but I can't delete the files from the playlists. The app pops up an option to delete the track but selecting the option does nothing. I'll drop Naim support a note  on this if I can't find a fix. I guess I may be able to edit the playlist manually on my computer and try and restore.....will need to have a play.

Jack...I am having exactly the same problem. I have a playlist called "Test", which only contains 5 tracks. I use it just for demoing cables etc...Quite often, if I click on one of the five tracks, I get a message saying "Server can't find this track". If I try and play the same track directly from the album, it plays without hesitation.

Same here! Could be iPad the fatal device? During the beta test happens as well but not regularly.

Meerkat/Bicela

Did either of you change any of the metadata or the location of the files from when you originally created the playlist? Also changing the IP address of your UPnP server would screw things up.

Cheers

Hi Jack, no, I've just removed the beta app, download the official release and made a app reset and clearing all. Just to be sure to have no problem... And I got!

Anyway happy new year to All, ciao!

I've dropped Naim an email about not being able to delete tracks that it cant find in the playlist. It sort of makes sense that if you change the metadata associated with any of your tracks in a playlist that it might throw an error (even if very frustrating) saying can't find track(s).

But if you haven't changed any of the items listed below then I've no idea why it can't find them and you might consider contacting Naim. Looking at the playlist file it contains a number of elements the ones you might possibly alter (for whatever reason) are:

- the ip address of the upnp server (a good reason to use a static address / reserved via DHCP)

- the port number associated with the upnp server (unlikely unless you are using a new server)

- the mime type e.g. wav or flac

- the name of the track

- the artist name

- the album name

- the genre

- the track duration

- the location of the cover image

Whilst I've not tested all of the above I suspect any change to just one will cause the problem with your playlist.

All the best for 2015!!

Happy New Year to you all.

To answer your questions. As with the old app I have dynamic IP address allocation. On ripping an album I only add to the location field so I can find the album on the server. The old original app worked OK the new NAIM app fills playlists with 500 tracks.

Could someone send me a link for NAIM support as I can't find it please.

Thanks John.
