Dave Kertzner ~ New World (2014)
An interesting "find" and suggestion Bert. As you say it has similarities to Pink Floyd. It also has undertones of Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson and ELP amongst other influences . Not surprising then to find Keith Emerson is involved on a Moog synth' at some stage. Keith Hackett on guitar and various others names contribute. Most definitely a new prog' rock work. I have kept it queued on Spotify and will give it another play sometime, before making a buying decision.
Steve
I will definitely buy it and even go for the deluxe version which includes prolonged intros and additional songs which fit into the theme (which is quite unique as it's not a "normal bonus"). It's by the way like a lot of great music available through bandcamp.
I was just about to click on buy now but couldn't decide on standard or extended (delux) versions :-( Already spent too much, this week, on music :-( My worry is the 'extra' stuff on the delux version ends up making it just too long. Heck it's 143 mins!! I'm lucky if I get a spare 45-60 mins to listen to an album let along over 2 hours!! Playing on spotify at the moment :-)
Just played it - great for those ones which have been disappointed with the endless river....

This time deluxe really means something, you should give it a try..., makes it even more atmospheric...
Michael Franks: Tiger in Rain
A great chill album for late night.
This was never one of my fave out of his catalogue but now rediscovering how great the musicianship on this album.
I didn't realise Ron Carter and Kenny Barron were supporting this album.

Yep.. purchased and listening to it now at work.. Very good. Best album of 2015 so far for me. Definite Floyd rip off's in there... I've spotted a couple of sections...
Always nice
"Can you tell me where my country lies?" said the unifaun to his true love's eyes...
Still have no idea what a unifaun is though.
Clive, I am not sure if I am any the wiser for finding it but pass this song analysis discussion along to you FYI. I found it here:
http://starling.rinet.ru/music/song1.htm
"0:00-0:20. The near accappella introduction. "Can you tell me where my country lies?" This, from the very very beginning, sets up a medieval mood - we get analogies with all those Celtic/Anglo-Saxon, etc., ballads beginning with 'can you tell me...' or 'let me tell you...', however, right after the fourth word Gabriel breaks up the analogy and transforms the typical narrative beginning into a 'philosophic' question. This is what characterizes the entire song - an intricate and subtle mixture of the Medieval and the Modern.
"Said the unifaun to his true love's eyes..." Here Peter gets especially sad and tragic (and it's only the beginning of the song!). 'Unifaun' is supposed to be a pun, a cross between 'uniform' and 'faun' - the 'faun' brings in the mythological element, while the 'uniform' brings in certain military associations. Patriotic lament over the fate of one's country? Whatever it might be, the subject of the song is evident from the beginning line: a tragic statement of Britain's current state, a lamentation over the enormous, unbridgeable gap between the romantic past and the corrupt present..."
Or this:
"Can you tell me where my country lies?" "Said the unifaun to his true love's eyes..."
I never considered the 'uniform' angle - well spotted. I imagined a faun with a single horn in his forehead, with the pun on "unicorn" - which is also a valid interpretation, I think. PG may have had both in mind.
The Final Cut, my original first pressing, and sounding fab. :-
...then Gershwin An American in Paris/Rhapsody in Blue, The Boston Pops, on Chessky records vinyl. Can't find an image but no matter, this is an incredibly vibrant and dynamic recording, fair blows the socks off!
Then a bit of Joni on vinyl :-
Enya - "The Memory of Trees". A charity shop find from yesterday. Typical Enya fare ...

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Kate Bush - Lionheart. Another charity shop find. Quite an old album I know but one I hadn't heard. Brilliant and well worth a listen.
Kate Bush - Lionheart. Another charity shop find. Quite an old album I know but one I hadn't heard. Brilliant and well worth a listen.
The album Kate had the least 'control' over and hence she apparently thinks it her worst.
I find Kates best albums are the more spontaneous ones where she just sings her quirky songs with her beautiful voice - this is what you get on Lionheart and I love it! A very intimate and moody album.
Her first three Albums 'Kick Inside', 'Lionheart' and 'Never Forever' are my personal favorites.

I agree with you. I like the later stuff but the first three are definitely the best

Pink Floyd ~ The Final Cut (1983)
Because tonym's playing of it earlier today reminded me that I hadn't listened to this in years.
