On XRCD.
The dullest Romeo and Juliet.
Masur has absolutely no sense of timing.
The orchestra simply do not hang well together and that the finale simply sound noisy and no sparkles. It’s like a gilded ornamens with layers of dust on them.
Even the historic primitive sounding Mengelberg/Concertgebowv 1930 recording has more lyricism and human expressions.
My long-time favourite Bowie album. Ch..ch..ch..changes.........
I've always preferred his early work. Among other attributes on Hunky Dory I think the piano playing on it is superb.
Me too. This is a favourite. And Ziggy, of course.
Loving this on Blu-ray. He's truly a treasure. Without compare.
The Smashing Pumpkins. Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. On 2 CDs from 1995. The Pumpkins' music has always been a dichotomy for me. Songs like 'Tonight, Tonight' are triumphant and exuberant, while something like 'Zero' is pure despair. Billy Corgan has a gift for writing melodies, but his singing style can get short in a hurry. Still this seems to me to be a landmark album in the alternative/grunge genre.

Completely agree. Corgan is undoubtedly a musical genius, but he exists in a narrow band of connection with an increasingly limited audience. One must be in the mood, but when it comes together this record is incredible. MCATIS a seminal album that is a must in any serious alt/rock/indie/grunge(?) collection.
For sure this 2007 recording by Davis/LSO is far more soul reaching. Majestic yet poignant it's much more direct and pleading than his almost too pretty earlier BBC Phillips set.
Pity that the chorus in the 2ch mix is somewhat vague and set back sounding like a wall of ghosts standing in the backdrop.
This is a highly polished and charged chorus, their powerful rendition in Hostias can bring us to our knees.
This is a gem.

I bought this for a chance to win a mu-so but it's proved to be be a good album too.
Just a Fool, sung by Paulette McWilliams, will make you close your eyes and get lost in the music whether you want to or not. Exquisite recording and performance.

My other ticket to the mu-so draw.
Osprey,
Good luck to you. The date is drawing near. I hope someone from the forum is the winner so we can hear their thoughts on the prize.

Thanks! I've never won anything in these type of events. Let's hope this will be the first time.

I like it!

Having just absorbed both discs back to back, I'm ready to hit the bottle. Heavy stuff for sure, not happy. I'll give it some time to 'relax' on my shelf before listening again. But as you say, from it's place and time, a significant piece of the American music scene.

Iommi ~ Fused (2005)
Legendary Black Sabbath founder member and lead guitarist Tony Iommi together with rock vocalist Glen Hughes make this a really enjoyable album, well worth playing if you have never heard it before.
MP3 through noise cancelling headphones from iPhone.
I seem to be going through a Genesis revival phase at the moment and my Genesis buying had stopped at Wind and Wuthering/Seconds Out, but I'd bought this for a girlfriend long ago and seem to remember it being quite enjoyable, so I bought it from the river today. Hence the free ripped MP3 copy.
