These are the new takes on Garner's *standards* he played in the 40s.
He recoded them all in this 1954 10" LP release.
Original 10" LP cover.
Album liner notes says Garner recorded this once. Without any retakes.
Many tunes are covers but this album includes Garner's own 'Play, Piano Play!'
Transcription of the tune is available but it's not as easy as one might think.
One needs to be born with the gift for the *feel* of a tune to pull it off.
Released in 1958, Garner's playing is a lot more mature and getting more lush.
Unexpected chords and trippy breaks are still there in abundance but now harmony and tones are richer and much more colourful than ever.
Columbia's studio mono recording is dynamic and surprisingly excellent clarity and piano tones. Much better than even Van Gelder piano recording from the same era. I assumed this is recored in Columbia's 30th st. studio in NYC.
Garnering: 1954 reissue.
This is a compilation of tunes he recorded for EmArcy/Mercury Chicago in the late 40s.

This album was originally released through Mercury's sister label Wing.
Young Garner with youthful riffs.
First installment of an expected three discs. When Zimmermann records something, you know he has thought out and tested his interpretations many times before committing it to tape. Not the flashiest fiddler around, but one of the most dependently excellent ones. He doesn't inject energy into these works, but releases the energy that is already in them. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the review I already suspected this would be an album which should be on my wish list....
Pleasant album for in between, casual listening...

Bert, these are works I have avoided for a long time - but this one and Vilde Frang's new disc looked too good to pass up and I'm glad I didn't. The highres is currently discounted at qobuz if you're interested.

Dave Kertzner ~ New World (2014)
An interesting "find" and suggestion Bert. As you say it has similarities to Pink Floyd. It also has undertones of Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson and ELP amongst other influences . Not surprising then to find Keith Emerson is involved on a Moog synth' at some stage. Keith Hackett on guitar and various others names contribute. Most definitely a new prog' rock work. I have kept it queued on Spotify and will give it another play sometime, before making a buying decision.
Steve
I will definitely buy it and even go for the deluxe version which includes prolonged intros and additional songs which fit into the theme (which is quite unique as it's not a "normal bonus"). It's by the way like a lot of great music available through bandcamp.
I was just about to click on buy now but couldn't decide on standard or extended (delux) versions :-( Already spent too much, this week, on music :-( My worry is the 'extra' stuff on the delux version ends up making it just too long. Heck it's 143 mins!! I'm lucky if I get a spare 45-60 mins to listen to an album let along over 2 hours!! Playing on spotify at the moment :-)
This time deluxe really means something, you should give it a try..., makes it even more atmospheric...
On my third listen now. Excellent BUT I have an issue with the 2+ hours length :-( So far I've not managed more than an hour into it due to a lack of time. I hate part listening to an album (back to my 'concept album' roots I suppose) so each time I start again from the beginning. Longest continual listening time is at work from 7am 'till the gang start turning up and that's through some crappy speakers on my PC. Maybe it's time to get a dragonfly and some semi-okay headphones for work? Anyway enough of my gripes.... damn good album - well the first hour is great anyway! ;-)

Just get the normal version as well - and you will be at an acceptable listening time :-)
Pictures At An Exhibition on Radio 3 , a lot less synthesisers than when I last listened to this piece.

Available in 96KHz now as well!
Him of the many youtube videos.
He sells guitars..... Nice guy!
Probably my favourite Jeff Buckley track.
Indeed Ewemon. This is one of those records.......!
Wishbone Ash ~ Wishbone Four (1973)
IMO not up to the standard of their first three excellent albums but nice to re-visit c/o Spotify.
Blues Pills - Blues Pills (2014)
Vinyl
One of my favourite albums of last year.
Swedish Blues Rock - Guitars and Drums reminiscent of early (Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac, female vocals similar to Colleen Rennison from No Sinner.
