More chilled-out (or should that be chilly?) Scandi-jazz:

Hi Graham,

Did you hear the sad news that Gavin Clark passed away on Monday? Saw it yesterday on his Facebook page

Hi Denis, I saw that too. Very sad. I like the work he did for Shane Meadows.

Denis

I just saw that this morning.  A spin of this seems appropriate:

No Denis, missed that very sad news.... We had intended to get to his one man show in Nottingham on 7th Feb but unfortunately could not make it.

Hope you are well G

Hi Kevin,

I went to the Beautiful Skeletons launch show at RICH Mix, Shoreditch last year. Shane showed 3 short early films he made & the DVD he made about Gavin (very moving & funny). Gavin then played for about an hour. A fantastic 'live' singer, who I'd only seen before at the very last Clayhill gig. Afterwards, both Shane & Gavin signed my vinyl sleeve. It will be a treasured reminder of a lovely man.

Edit:

Graham, a sad loss. I'm fine thanks, hope all's well with you as well.

Jeff,

One of the greatest One off albums I have purchased. In fact, I bought it twice, in case I wore the first one out!

"Tango In The Night"   (1990)   SP

The Tony Cousins 2006 remaster. I'm not sure at the moment; at low level it sounds as though its been lifted at both ends of the audio spectrum. Better at 'realistic' levels.

Sting

The Nocturnes from Pietro de Maria's complete Chopin set. De Maria knows that these are songs for piano and plays them as such, in a detailed but unadorned fashion. He avoids the angular contrasts of Maurizio Pollini or the more extreme expressiveness of Pires let alone Arrau (among three of my favorites), but he is subtler than either.

I picked this up in a charity shop a few weeks ago for a couple of quid, ripped it to the NAS but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Think I'll add it to the play list ...

EJ, thanks to you I am sure I ordered this about a week ago and am eagerly waiting for this to arrive.  Not sure how this happened but Pietro de Maria is a pianist I don't ever recall hearing or knowing and viola, a complete Chopin set.  I'm looking forward to this.
