Robert Schumann:  Dora Deliyska (piano)

Kreisleriana op. 16

Kinderszenen op. 15

Etudes pour le pianoforte d'après les caprices de Paganini op. 3, Nos. 1 & 2

Dora Deliyska is a pianist I get along with very well.  Her earlier discs of Schubert, Liszt, Beethoven and Chopin are all outstanding and here with Schumann I would say nothing has changed.  All the essential elements are here.  A beautiful touch, heart, soul, vision, and depth.  There is also so much attention to detail and amazing thought going on with micro and macro details such as the over arching architecture of each piece.   Of course, none of this would matter in the end if it failed to sound good and in this department, the sound quality is excellent.  In fact, I never used to get so excited about the sound of a Bosendorfer but due to all the recordings made by Dora Deliyska on a Bosendorfer I am smitten by this piano now.  So, when I win the lottery, the first five pianos I would put in my music room would be Hamburg Steinway, New York Steinway, Bosendorfer, Bechstein and Bluthner.

Erroll Garner: Paris Impression. 1958 release.

Returning from his triumphant Paris tour, he went into the studio to record new tunes. Liner notes reads that these are the tunes inspired by Paris and her people.

There are a few new his own composition and also he discovered the sound of harpsichord. He composed 'Don't look for me' specifically for the instrument. I don't know what harpsichord he was playing but in Garner's hands, it sounds more like a guitar.

Here's Erroll on harpsichord.

The film starring Woodward and Newman reminds me of poor man's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' .

Garner did the film score with Mancini like orchestra backdrop.

Very dated but very 60s and kitsch.

Dave Kertzner ~ New World (2014)

An interesting "find" and suggestion Bert. As you say it has similarities to Pink Floyd. It also has undertones of Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson and ELP amongst other influences . Not surprising then to find Keith Emerson is involved on a Moog synth' at some stage. Keith Hackett on guitar and various others names contribute. Most definitely a new prog' rock work.  I have kept it queued on Spotify and will give it another play sometime, before making a buying decision.

Steve

Just get the normal version as well - and you will be at an acceptable listening time :-)

Available in 96KHz now as well!

Arghhh bought it too early then....

Sent an email to Dave and he responded right back with a discount code to lessen the blow of the upgrade :-) 96K version downloading as we speak :-)

I got the 96K flac version from Qubiz a few months ago when it was on offer. A definite improvement over the ripped CD.

What do you think Dave? I saw Rae last week @ Brixton Electric where she gave her most assured performance I've seen during the last 2 years. Atlantic are investing in Rae, as demonstrated with her excellent 'live' band, visuals and sound mix. Seeing her progress from the shy girl performing with a string quartet @ Cecil Sharp House and now in front of a 1700 strong crowd has been wonderful.

I remember this f**k me moment when I first heard 'Don't Go' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wfWLxpcmhY

I've been a fan ever since and highly recommend seeing Rae 'live'.

Hi Denis,

It's a great album and deserves to be a success. I'll keep my eyes open for any gigs near Manchester.

I gave this album a spin, because i wanted to hear:

track; 1. That's it for the Other One, and track 2, New Potato Carboose - which both appear on the 2014 release of GD vinyl 4 x LP set called, 'Two From The Vaults' which also consists of 1968 recordings from the Shrine Auditorium (Los Angeles). I don't know if they are exactly the same recordings or different out-take versions but i have the 'Vaults One' 3 x LP set which is dead 100% brilliant, and have heard well recommended reports of the new 'Vaults Two' ...so i've ordered:

My vinyl set has been despatched

and should arrive here before the weekend

Also, i see on Amazon; 'Three From The Vaults' set is available on CD and Download, so i expect the vinyl won't be far behind to complete the trilogy.

Ok, but not his best album, now too much relying on rhythm
